Ep 219219: Kids' books, co-parenting and cats with Nadia Shireen
EWhat's it like being a cat person when you have big dog energy? Which term should we use - co-parenting, single parenting, or double parenting? And what does Philip Larkin have in common with the lead singer of T'Pau? Answering all these questions is the marvellous Nadia Shireen! She tells us how she went from Smash Hits sub editor to successful children's author. We discuss the issue of diversity in kids' books, and whether things are getting any better. Then we round off with some chat about sleep deprivation and the role Mark Owen might play in the impending apocalypse. It's jollier than it sounds. Buy Nadia's books! The excellent Barbara Throws a Wobbler and Grimwood are out now, and they are brilliant - our kids love them and so do we. Follow Nadia on Twitter @nadiashireen, and on Instagram @nadiashireendraws. Ep 218Christmas Special: A Tale of Two Bumholes
EHo ho ho! The gang's all here for this year's festive episode as we are joined by Nurse Jessie, Sam Pamphilon and Steve Hill! Is Sam divorced yet? Has Nurse Jessie got a new job? Why are Ellie and James Bond responsible for Steve getting corona? And is it true that we all have two sphincters? Tune in to find out! We cover a host of highbrow topics from how men go to the toilet to when it's OK to fart in front of a new lover. Ham Review almost ends in a fistfight, and Sam tells a lovely Christmassy story about a Coke Zero bottle full of piss. Finally, as a special treat, The Accent Game returns. NB: Unfortunately there were some technical issues with this recording - some gremlins got in and made parts of the podcast sound all roboty. So we had to delete some bits, such as Sam's chat about what he's been up to (a new baby and a new telly show!), Jessie's gift swap (we got her some feminine hygiene wash!), and the boys' turn at the Accent Game (probably for the best.) But there's arguably more than enough to listen to here anyway...Thank you so much to Laylo Wines for fuelling this podcast with their delicious box wines. For £5 off, go to drinklaylo.com and enter the code SCUMMY at checkout. Look out for Sam on CITV very soon in the brand new show Ted's Top Ten. Answering all these questions is one of our favourite people - it's Daniel Varani! He tells us all about his 15 years working as an air steward, from the weird things passengers leave on their food trays to dealing with people trying to join the mile-high club. Then we chat about Daniel's experience of growing up in London with Italian parents, and how food helped keep him connected to his mum in lockdown. He reveals his authentic bolognese recipe, and blows our minds by sharing the proper way to put parmesan on pasta. We finish off with some Scummy Mummy Confessions, including one from our very own Godfather. Daniel's brilliant book, Danny's Kitchen, is available now. Ep 200200: The 200th Episode! Live from hospital
EThis year, we're celebrating eight years and 200 episodes of The Scummy Mummies Podcast. We had big plans for this ep: fizzy wine! A lovely guest! Lots of lols! A lucrative advertising deal! But then, because premature babies, surprise divorces and global pandemics just aren't enough curve balls, life decided to kick us another one. So we've ended up recording this episode with Helen dialling in from hospital, where she's looking after her poorly daughter. Thank you for all the kind words of support. We decided to go ahead and record something because so many people have been messaging us, and we wanted to share what's going on. And because we did want to mark 200 episodes in some way, even if we had to swap the fizzy wine and birthday cake for IV drips and M&S salads. Most of all, we want to say thank you to everyone who has listened and subscribed to the podcast, who has written us lovely reviews, who has sent us funny confessions, and shared messages of encouragement. We had no idea what response we would get when we started this nonsense back in 2013. We certainly didn't dream we'd still be doing this eight years on. You have kept us going, so thank you. Lots of love, Ellie and Helen x Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
