Throughout her professional journey, she has come to recognize the importance of not only guiding students through the college admissions process but also helping them discover their aspirations for the future. That's the major reason why she founded BosonEd. I recently spoke with Katia about how high school juniors (Class of 2026) should start their college planning now (if they haven’t already). We also discussed some ways that younger students can begin preparing for college, as well. In our conversation, Katia shared: The timeline for standardized tests Why she recommends students NOT take the SAT or ACT more than three times How a student’s passions, perspectives, and achievements with extracurriculars affect college admissions How high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors should approach participating in extracurricular activities to build an application theme A timeline for requesting letters of recommendation A timeline for college visits and how to get the most out of them You can connect with Katia by visiting BosonEd.org. Also, be sure to read the article Katia referenced in our discussion, “【Case study】What kind of student got into Princeton?'" Class of 2026: As Katia said in our discussion, high school juniors need to begin their college planning process right now. That includes planning how to pay for college, including scholarships. Did you know a FULL RIDE scholarship is open for high school juniors right now? Did you know that a different scholarship covering full tuition for any college in the country will be opening for juniors this spring? These are just two of the many scholarship opportunities open to high school juniors. My son won his first scholarship as a high school junior. In the Scholarship GPS Course, you will find an interview with a high school junior who won a $35,000 scholarship! So, while you need to start the college planning that Katia talked about, high school juniors also need to begin the scholarship process. Ep 980$20,000 Scholarship Opportunity for the Class of 2025 - No Essay To Apply; 5 Other Scholarships; Class of 2025, Don't Delay; Easy Weekender Scholarship

Every year, I see the same thing: high school seniors who find every reason not to apply for scholarships. Here is what one mom said in an online forum when asked what she wishes she had done differently during her child’s senior year: "I wish I had pushed my HS senior to commit to applying for scholarships. Later in her senior year, she found all kinds of ways to avoid putting in the effort."- Mom of Class of 2024 Grad. If your student is in the Class of 2025, they must start applying for scholarships immediately. Otherwise, here’s the list of “reasons” that they won’t be able to start later: September: “School just started. I need to adjust to my new schedule before working on scholarships.” October: “I need to work on my college applications and essays before working on scholarships.” November: “It’s Thanksgiving! Don’t I deserve a break?!” December: “I need to fill out the FAFSA before working on scholarships.” January: “I need to adjust to my new spring class schedule before working on scholarships.” February: “I need to get my college acceptance before I start working on scholarships.” March: “My spring sport takes too much time to work on scholarships.” April: “I need to do all the graduation prep before I work on scholarships.” May: “Prom prep is taking up all of my free time. I can’t work on scholarships.” June: “All of the good scholarships are closed.” Your student’s list of “reasons” will vary, but you get the point: Students can always find a “reason” that they can’t apply for scholarships. However, it's important to remember that the earlier they start, the more opportunities they will have. So, let's not let these “reasons” hold us back. Let's start applying for scholarships now and make the most of the opportunities available. The hardest part of scholarships is getting started. But, Class of 2025 students who start now will not only get over this hump but also enjoy these benefits: They will build a portfolio of scholarship essays that they can reuse for many more scholarship applications throughout their senior year. They will have the experience and skills needed to be better scholarship applicants in the spring when their local scholarship opportunities (usually) open up. They could win one of the $20,000, $30,000, $50,000, or other high-dollar scholarships open to seniors this fall! It's crucial to understand the urgency of the situation. Did you know that the Class of 2025 has already missed a FULL TUITION and a FULL RIDE scholarship opportunity? Every day a student delays is another lost scholarship opportunity. Perhaps you and your student are willing to start, but you aren’t sure how. The Scholarship GPS Course will get you and your student up to speed quickly. Here are just some of the highlights from the course: How and where to find scholarships How to prioritize the right scholarships How to build a student’s Personal Narrative: The Key to Scholarship Success How to respond to the most common scholarship essay topics Plus, throughout the fall, I will be adding lessons on some of the biggest scholarship opportunities for the Class of 2025 - scholarships that virtually every senior should apply for! The tools, tactics and strategies I share in the Scholarship GPS Course are the same ones I used to coach my own son to over $95,000 in scholarships, to coach Isabella to 14 scholarship wins, and to coach Talon to over $100,000 in scholarships! Mike is the founder of Chariot Learning, which delivers on the promise of what truly transformative, individualized education can and should be. Mike is also the founding President of the Board of Directors of the National Test Prep Association, the creator of the TestBright SAT & ACT curriculum system and Roots2Words vocabulary program, and the co-host of the college admissions industry podcast Tests and the Rest. In our light-hearted interview, Mike shares the 7 steps to a terrible college essay—a fun way to drive home what NOT to do and the flip side of his article, 7 Steps To An Amazing College Essay. ------- I am a strong advocate for the work of Lisa Marker-Robbins and Flourish Coaching. For over a decade, Lisa has helped over 3,600 high school students and young adults gain the insight, experiences, and confidence they need to embark on their post-high school path. Along the way, however, she noticed an alarming trend: Teens struggled to find their true purpose–and the fallout wasn’t pretty. There was a lot of uncertainty around college majors and future careers. As a result, students weren’t graduating college on time, and even when they did, they often left college underemployed or unemployed altogether. From my perspective, gaining college and career clarity not only sets up the student to thrive in college and puts them on the path to future career success, but it’s also beneficial for finding and winning scholarships. More than half of the private scholarships my son won, both in high school and while in college, were directly related to his college major. The other scholarships, while open to students of all majors, were still won due to his compelling Personal Narrative - his story of his future plans, with the ability to point to past achievements related to those plans. Whether your child is in high school or college, if they are unclear about their future career or even their college major, I can think of no better investment than to look into the programs that Lisa and Flourish Coaching offer. Danny Kofke worked as a school teacher for 18 years; he has written several personal finance books, including A Bright Financial Future: Teaching Kids about Money Pre-K Through College for Lifelong Success. Danny has appeared on numerous national television shows, including Fox & Friends, CNN's Newsroom, The 700 Club, and MSNBC Live. Danny has been interviewed on over 600 radio shows and featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Huff Post, and Money Magazine. Danny is one of my colleagues at Mentoro, where he serves as a Motivational Mentor. In our conversation, Danny shares his views on: How to lead young people to be better money managers and achieve financial success, and how social media can make that harder. How to help young people understand the value of work, budgeting, and long-term goals, and how your actions as a parent speak louder than words. Whether teens can truly understand the impact of student loans and how to have conversations about debt. Whether teens and college students should have credit cards. And much more… To connect with Danny, go to MyMentoro.com and check out Danny’s podcast, Run With The Bulls.
