Show Notes
Chronic pain patients number in the many millions in the United States. In the U.S. the CDC recently issued a clarification about the opioids guidelines it released in 2016, reminding they were never intended as a mandated approach to denying pain patients their prescription medication. The U.S. Surgeon General has as well warned against pain patients being arbitrarily tapered and/or denied their medications. The FDA has issued a similar warning. The American Academy of Family Physicians (representing some 560,000 doctors) is calling for an end to interference by governments and government agencies in the relationship between doctors and their patients. This is causing pain patients to be denied their medication which forces them to live in agony, reach for illegal street drugs to combat their pain or even going so far as to committing suicide.
Guest: Richard Lawhern PhD. His wife and daughter are chronic pain patients and Lawhern is on the forefront of the U.S. fight by pain patients and their advocates to stop cruelty and DEA swat teams raiding doctors’ offices "their patients terrorized at gunpoint."
