China increasingly accused of interfering in Canada's internal affairs. Accusations include that Beijing's meddling directly affected results in a number of constituencies in last year's federal election, including the re-election effort of Conservative Party of Canada, Stevenson-Richmond East MP Kenny Chiu. Mr. Chiu was approached by CSIS just days before the vote. Kenny Chiu would lose his seat. China appeared to disapprove of Kenny Chiu's private member's legislation calling for anyone acting for a foreign agency and who lobby in Canada must register as such.
