Show Notes

Sonya Nadine Mae Cywink was born in Little Current on Manitoulin Island on August 19, 1963. Her body (and that of her unborn child) was found at Southwold Earthworks, a 40-minute drive southwest of London, ON on Aug. 30, 1994.

This year marks 25 years since her murder and the case is still unsolved. National Online Reporter Jane Gerster and Supervising Producer of Original Content Brent Stanley traveled to Manitoulin Island to speak with Sonya's sister, Meggie, and the community where she grew up. Sonya is one of thousands of MMIWG cases and her sister one of the families who opposed the MMIWG inquiry.

This will tell Sonya's story from a cold case perspective, as well as delving into the issue of MMIWG post inquiry's final report: It was pitched as a way to understand the issue fully, but now that we have, what do we do? And has it helped bring any unsolved cases like Sonya's closer to fruition?
