Show Notes

Alex is an Afghan interpreter who accompanied the Canadian military on missions during the war in Afghanistan, experiencing the same dangers as our soldiers. These interpreters had a brief window of opportunity to petition to move to Canada permanently in 2009. Most were denied their refugee claims despite the fact that their work with our military had made them targets of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

On this Canada Day, Alex joins us from Afghanistan, to talk with Canadian PPCLI Major Mark Campbell who lost his legs to an IED attack while serving in Afghanistan. The two discuss the integral role that interpreters played in keeping members of the Canadian military relatively safe in Afghanistan, and the dangers these interpreters are now in.
