Show Notes

2016 set a new record for total amount of worldwide e-waste at 45 million tonnes. That's equivalent to about 4,500 Eiffel Towers.

Among all of this are the phones, computers, tablets and televisions that we throw away. The raw materials of the discarded electronics are estimated to be worth nearly $65 billion due to the gold, silver, copper, platinum and palladium within the products. But only 8.9 million tonnes were collected and recycled, while most wound up in landfills. Many of these devices contain confidential corporate and personal information.

What can be done to deal with the rising tide of obsolete and unwanted electronics?

Guest: Dave Potter, Vice-president of Business Development with Global e-Waste Solutions, with offices in Canada
