The federal NDP and Liberal Party agreed to forming/funding of a national pharmacare program. For millions of Canadians the issue is far more basic. These Canadians often cannot obtain a prescription (or diagnosis) of their serious, even life-threatening illness.
At present more than 6 million people in Canada are without a family (primary care) doctor. Some patients are dying.
That number will soon reach 10 million, or 25% of the current national population. Family doctors under huge pressure are moving to other medical disciplines or retiring. Where should the emphasis be? Pharmacare or securing sufficient numbers of primary care physicians?
