The RCMP arrested two people during raids in Kingston, Ontario, in connection with a major national security probe this week. A youth is facing terrorism-related charges, while a 20-year-old man was released from custody without charges. Police have released very few details about the investigation. Roy speaks with Dr. Christian Leuprecht, who is a military expert and happens to live two blocks away from where one of the raids took place.
Later, Roy is joined by Lieutenant Colonel Steve Day to discuss threats to Canada’s national security, whether they’re beyond our borders or in the heart of our communities, and why he thinks the media may have dropped the ball on this particular case.
And what did we learn from the news conference put on by the RCMP on Friday? Not a whole lot, it would seem. Roy and Scott Newark discuss what we still do not know about the raids in Kingston.
Guests:
Dr. Christian Leuprecht, Queen's University and Royal Military College professor, author of “North American Strategic Defence in the 21st Century”
Lt. Colonel Steve Day, former Commanding Officer of Canada's elite JTF2 military unit
Scott Newark, former Alberta Crown prosecutor, former national and Ontario security advisor post 9/11, former senior policy advisor to a federal Minister for Public Safety and former executive director of the Canadian Police Association, now professor at Simon Fraser University
