Lawrence Manzer is a New Brunswick Canadian Armed Forces veteran with 17 years CAF service. In August of 2012, Manzer, in the middle of the night, became aware of an altercation at his neighbour's home, seeing his neighbour engaged with three strangers. Manzer entered the situation with an unloaded shotgun. When police arrived Manzer was arrested and found himself criminally charged. The court case eventually was resolved in Lawrence Manzer's favour and his firearms were returned.
