Show Notes
Empire star Jussie Smollett appeared on Good Morning America on Thursday and told Robin Roberts that he believed it he was attacked by two men because of his anti-Donald Trump public position. The attackers reportedly shouted racist and homophobic slogans while pouring a noxious substance over Smollett and putting a rope around his neck.
But now sources close to the investigation have told CBS and CNN that the two men arrested in the connection to the attack, Nigerian brothers who are cooperating with Chicago police, have claimed that Smollett paid them for a staged attack. According to Global News, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told CBS Chicago they “can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation.”
This all raises a big question: why would Smollett or anyone want to stage an attack on themselves?
