1 John reads much like an encouraging speech or an uplifting sermon. It is filled with inspiration and reassurance about the core truths of the Gospel, which underscore the message of the cross. Embracing love over hate and focusing on the Gospel over worldly messages were critical themes for the first century as well as for Christians today. Division and polarization are rampant in our society. It is easy to become discouraged. 1 John serves as an assurance to believers so they may know that they have eternal life with Jesus Christ. In this message, Pastor Chan walks us through four ways that we can have assurance that we know Christ and that Christ knows us.

Today's Message Text: 1 John 2:3-11
Main Idea: In this passage, the Apostle John emphasizes the importance of obeying God’s commands as evidence of knowing Him. He stresses that genuine love for God is shown by keeping His commandments. Those who claim to know God but do not follow His commands are liars, while those who obey Him demonstrate true knowledge and love of God. John also highlights the command to love others: if someone claims to walk in the light (God’s truth) but hates a fellow believer, they are still in darkness. True followers of Christ love one another, walking in the light.
