Aaron Alexander & Andrew Gordon react to The Maze Runner (2014), the high-concept dystopian action thriller directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and based on James Dashner’s bestselling novel. Launching a popular YA franchise, the film drops viewers into a mysterious, brutal survival scenario where memory, trust, and instinct are the only tools for escape. The story follows Thomas (Dylan O’Brien – Teen Wolf, American Assassin), who awakens with no memory in a massive maze surrounded by towering stone walls and deadly creatures known as Grievers. He’s taken in by a group of boys called the Gladers, led by Alby (Aml Ameen – Sense8, Yardie) and strategic second-in-command Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster – Game of Thrones, Love Actually). Tensions rise with the arrival of the ruthless Gally (Will Poulter – Midsommar, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), whose belief in the maze’s rules clashes with Thomas’s instinct to challenge them.
