Markets Prepare for the Q4 Earnings Parade (1/11/24)

(1/11/24) Q4 Earnings season commences next week on top of drastically lowered earnings estimates: Analysts have dropped their estimates by $8/share on average, dramatically lowering the bar for companies to clear in their quarterly reports. Additionally, analysts are expecting most of earnings growth this year to come from the Technology sector, with a little help from Healthcare. Meanwhile,. markets continue to trade sideways, yesterday touching December's highs, but rolled off by the end of the day; still, closing close to that level. Today's trading will hinge on this morning's .3% M/M increase in CPI, slightly hotter than expected, which could trigger some selling today as the Fed is anticipated to possibly walk-back it's bullish statements of late.
