<p>Kiese Laymon, a southern writer born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, is one of the best writers in the country. He is the author of <em>Heavy: An American Memoir, </em>the novel <em>Long Division </em> and a collection of essays,  <em>How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America.
