Show Notes
The latest episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast provides an inside view on what it’s like preparing a rookie for their oval debut, with Agustin Canapino’s race engineer Charlie Ping joining the show.
Ping has worked for a broad range of IndyCar teams as well as the engine manufacturers and has also spent time in tin-tops in the Australian Supercars series, so is the perfect fit as Canapino’s race engineer having also worked with the show’s co-host JR Hildebrand in the past.
On the agenda for this week’s show is assessing Canapino’s adaptation and his somewhat surprising but welcome trait in one key driving area, as well as looking at the team culture Ping works in under boss Ricardo Juncos.
Ping also outlines how to prepare a rookie for ovals and some of the traits he looks for in oval newcomers - with Texas marking the first oval race of the season this weekend - as well as some of the key challenges rookies face in the unusual nature of racing in circles.
