There have been a lot of popular Aussie dads on TV over the years, all of them very similar - white, grumpy and not really that involved with their kids, but now we have some more modern role models like Bandit from Bluey, and Hamish Blake.
So why have they come under fire recently for perhaps not being quite as good as we like to think? And why do Aussie dads in popular culture still fit the traditional "Larrikin" stereotype?
The Quicky speaks to an expert in creative arts who isn't convinced about these so-called "perfect" TV dads, to consider whether our expectations of men continue to be so much lower than that of women, that it actually makes us think they are a lot better than they really are.
