KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Instead of travelling for lengthy periods of time between his home in Reading and his investment area, Rob took the huge step of relocating entirely to Hull; his main area of focus for investment. By doing so, he was able to not only save himself dozens of hours each week in travel, which could be used to better effect in business, but also to be closer to the action, enabling him to strike more quickly when opportunities arose.
  • Rob’s first real investment came from the “Bank of Family”. If you decide to go down this route, then it’s important to treat it like a normal financial agreement, with data and research to show how that money’s going to be used, as well as accurate forecasts about when they’ll see their money back, along with any interest.
  • In order to fast-track the property sourcing process, Rob advises working on your network, expanding wherever possible. Also, generating as many leads as possible is crucial.
  • It’s good to push yourself out of your comfort zone. For Rob, who’s naturally introverted, podcasting, writing books, networking and hosting live events are pushing him to become a better communicator, and in turn, a more outwardly confident person.
  • The idea of Rob’s book was to provide a step-by-step guide to investing in Buy-To-Let properties for those who are completely new to the idea, whilst also providing invaluable strategy advice and help to those who are already in the business.
  • By striving for success, and always looking for opportunities to grow and get better, Rob and Matt are determined to turn their brand into one of the most valuable and recognised in the industry.
  • Keeping going can be a challenge in itself. Know your 'why'. Know your vision. Remind yourself why you’re doing this. Define your goals, whether that’s time or money or family. Once you figure out your reason 'why', that’ll keep you going.

BEST MOMENTS

  • ‘Moving to your investment area depends on your circumstances’
  • ‘You have to believe in yourself’
  • ‘You surround yourself with people who have the skills. That’s why we have the power team’
  • ‘It’s never dull in Hull’
  • ‘Know your why. Know your vision’
