107 - Power and Speed - Mike McGinnis of Cobb Tuning - Saeed and Mohamed UAE Custom Show
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio along with two special guests from Dubai. Saeed Almarzouqi and Mohmed Ahmad came in with Tom. We can't tell you how amazing it was to have guys from thousands of miles away that share our common interest in all things fast. Saeed is the man behind the Custom Show in the UAE that Tom attends every year. We really hope these guys make our studio a stop every time they are stateside. The Team 260 guys checked in, the Neglection race has been postponed due to weather. These guys, and others are welcome to come on the show and plug their events. If you are close to the shows they put on, stop by and show your support. Cobb Tuning is well known around the Subaru world and have expanded to bands including Porsche, Nissan, and Ford. Mike McGinnis Senior R&D Calibrator of Cobb Tuning called the show to go over the process of development at Cobb. Cobb offers complete packages that are proven to provide solid repeatable gains, but the offering does not stop there. Cobb actually can repurpose sections of the ECU to provide features like trans brakes and bump in functionality. Mike is one of the guys making it all happen, and the show can only scratch the surface. Mike Jovanis, NJ resident, NMCA racer, and DragWeeker calls in to share some knowledge of what it takes to compete in DragWeek. Mike needs to come on again because the show ran so long. We got into a few things we wanted to talk about, but we were up on a time constraint. Mike is in the plans to come back in the next few shows. These DragWeek guys have lots of valuable info to share. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. Like us on Facebook by going to Power and Speed Podcast and follow us on Twitter @powerspeedpod. 106 - Power and Speed - Allison Black of Dynocom Dynos
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Someone help Chief from the 405. The 80s called and they want their sox back. Jeez dude. A caller from really close by calls in to tell us he took none of our advice. He wanted a blower and decided to go with a nitrous kit. Clearly Mike wasn't paying attention at first, but I will side with Mike on this one. 150HP wet on a dry manifold should be ok, but man that is touchy when you get on them hard. We know they can work but those manifolds were designed for air. Always use a good tuner and talk to quality guys like NX Nitrous Express. Tonight Allison Black from Dynocom gave us some good info about Dynocom. If you don't know about chassis dynos you can pick up some info here. Allison was good enough to explain some of the products, and more importantly, the pros and cons of Pods. (also known as hub dynos) Quite a few answered questions and reasons to use one VS the other. They have lots of features in the programing and it sounds like they have lots of good software advances in their latest offering. If you are looking for a Dyno, give them a look. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 105 - Power and Speed - Jason Hoots Dragweeker
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Poor Tad, he's hurting. We got older, and stuff goes wrong. Kinda like an old car you keep fixing. Tad has a case of the gout, and almost did not make the show. Hope ya feel better buddy. Here we go, the great head debate rages on. It should first be noted Mike was actually respectful in his opinion and gave the guy credit for what he accomplished in this world of LS engines. With that being said, the overwhelming opinion from very competent people is that the test is invalid. Why, we don't know, but it is. Mike did stand his ground and offered to pay for a test to prove a point. Lets see what goes down. Mike loves to gamble. A listener or two requested we get Jason Hoots on. Jason had probably the worst drag week experience we heard to date. We all know it's not easy, and we all know stuff can go wrong. Jason made one day of racing, and said that's it. He fully admits he approached the whole thing wrong and he is ready to go back right. Jason is a guy to watch, and if he survives our money is on him. AMA Ask Me Anything seems to be something the kids do today with the facebooks, the googler, and the tweeter. (SMH) So we decided why not. People asked us to do it, so send the questions or call in live. We will answer anything... like seriously....anything. 104 - Power and Speed - Adam Hodson and Nick Taylor of Team 260
EMike, Tom, Tad, and Headgames Dave in studio. Dave from Headgames actually lives pretty close to the studio, so it's nice when he can drop by. Dave and Mike go at it a little bit about heads, but don't let that fool you. He was there to pick up Mikes heads, and trust us, Mike is very sure about everything he does when it comes to getting work done. Drag Week guys continue, but this week it's something a little different. Adam Hodson and Nick Taylor of Team 260 called in to give more than just Drag Week info. These guys live racing, there is no other way to say it. Not only are they Drag Weekers, they are now race promoters. These guys got lots going on, and you should listen in and follow the Facebook page to get all the latest even details. We might even head out to the Neglection race. All of Team 260 (Two Six Oh) have been assume to talk to and we look forward to meeting all of them. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. 103 - Power and Speed - Jason Harding of Katech - Alex Corella Drag Week
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Drag week continues to monopolize the podcast. There are so many things to discuss, and Mike is researching everything 24/7. When questions come up our goto guy is Jason Harding from Katech motorsports. This time, it's an odd issue about what is going on the with the EPA and tuners? Jason knows all about the ins and outs of EPA approval and practices. We will have more about this in future shows, but it is scary stuff for the tuners and street guys. Seriously, if we go to Jason for answers you should too. Doesn't get better than Katech. Continuing with out Drag Week participant schedule Alex Corella calls in to share his story. His 93 Fox body actually uses a Ford engine. With all of the LS swapping going on it's nice to hear some guys stay true to the brand. Alex runs in the Super Street class and has some good stuff. If you listen to guys like Alex and our other guests and don't want to do this, We don't even know what to say. 102 - Power and Speed - UAE Custom Show - DragWeeker Matt Blasco
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. It seems Tad is much more of a dork than previously expected. Tad's car is delayed, in part because good ole Tad seems to be quietly trying to a "build thread" on some Subaru forums and won't proceed without... wait for it... pictures. I can't even imagine why, but this whole thing is gonna haunt em for a while. Tom was away last week at the UAE Custom show, and we don't think everyone realizes this area of the world is going car crazy. The Custom Show is getting bigger and bigger every year. Tom is involved with an engine building and tuning challenge that is a big part of the show. We realize not everyone can get there, but if you are planning a trip it would really be a cool place to go. The DragWeeker theme continues this week with Matt Blasco. Matt is old school Chrysler guy, but with some very interesting twists. Matt is a IT guy by trade and he put his skills to good use. His 1973 Dart actually runs "CAN bus" for the vehicle functions. He runs a Mega Squirt system, and uses it functions to the fullest. (listen to the fuel pump system) Matt knows quite a few guys in this industry that took interest in his car, and he is going to put us in touch with some DragWeek loyal vendors. Matt's a great guy, and we all look forward to meeting him in person. 101 - Power and Speed - Dave Localio - DragWeeker Richard Guido
EMike, Tom, Tad, and special guest Dave Localio of HeadGames in studio. We have only had the chance to have a guest in studio a few times, and it's always easier than talking on the phone. Dave Localio is responsible for some very serious boosted cars with insane boost levels. The prep of the factory head is crucial at these boost levels. The TX2K event that just concluded featured one is his customers cars. Don Summerton calls in to recap this event, and you should listen to the boost levels on these 2JZ cars. Dave lives closer than I realized and he can stop by from time to time and we would love to have him back. We decided we are going to stay with the who DragWeek topic. These guys are the reason this event is what it is today. DragWeeker Richard Guido is a 4 time competitor. Richard and his father (75 god bless em) make the trip in a 1965 GTO 517 F1C Procharger with a STICK! This is a real honest to god Pontiac and a real honest to god synchronized stock T56 trans. Richard has a great outlook on the whole event, and you can tell from listening to him he loves this stuff. Listen in, another great advertising for DragWeek. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 100 - Power and Speed - Travis Ray Drag Week competitor
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. None of us even noticed, but show number 100. Crazy stuff. Thanks to the fans for sticking with us. We may tool on them from time to time, but we really do appreciate all the listeners. Project SubiTard is getting close. Tad has his new engine ready to go from IAG. The parts, car, and everything is finally set. He has a few items to get to this finished up, but he will be on the road soon. It will still look like crap, but it will be a pretty stout street car. Drag Week has taken over our thoughts and daily conversations. Trust us, we are not trying to wear this subject out, but there is so much here to talk about. The best thing about this whole event is the people. We have had on and met some great car guys from all over the country and this week is no exception. Travis Ray joins the show to talk about his Drag Week experiences. This particular guest worked out to be not only a cool story, but educational for Mike and Tom. Travis is a Corvette C5 owner, and can recount the numerous pitfalls of the Corvette platform. Travis has competed in the Drag Week event since 2013 and had not had good luck until 2016. Everything from stub axels to electrical problems kept him from finishing, but 2016 ended all of that. Travis finished the week and averaged a 9.29 with a true to life street drivable C5 Corvette. It was a pleasure to drive, and needed nothing but tire changes to complete the week. Listen to this one, it's a good story of the road taken to complete Drag Week from another great car guy. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 099 - Power and Speed - Phil Data of King Engine Bearings - PJ Nadeau
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio on a Sunday. Sunday Sunday Sunday. All the NJ guys will all know where that comes from. Sunday recording this week due to travel plans and impending snow storm. We always try to have tech guys where we can, and we all like learning from the best people in the business. Tom knows just about everyone, and if he doesn't he knows someone who does. There is no shortage of great people who can come on, and this one is for the engine guys out there. Phillip Data from King Engine Bearings calls in to give some details about bearing types and construction. We know tons of people who just say, standard crank, give me a set of standard bearings. 90 times out of 100 it will run, is it the right way to do things? No. Phillip gets into some of the variety of bearings King manufactures, and why what bearings are used for a particular purpose. If you are trying to go over an engine yourself, you should do two things. Listen to this show, and give Phillip at King a call. That small amount of research will protect your investment. We look forward to having Phil on again, there is lots more to talk about when it comes to bearings. Continuing with our Drag Week theme, tonights second guest has a unique perspective. PJ Nadeau is not only a Drag Week competitor, he covers the Drag Week event as a contributor for Hot Rod. He has seen the competition side through his own eyes and knows just how hard this is to do. PJ's articles provide coverage for the guys (like us) who are not running in the top class. Everyone who does the Drag Week event deserves some recognition and PJ does a fantastic job telling their stories. Check his articles out on the Drag Week section of Hot Rod. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 098 - Power and Speed - Scott Clark and Chris Bishir - Drag Week
EMike, Tom, Tad, and in studio Scott Clark. We were all looking forward to this all week. Drag Week registration opened, and we are in. Talk about nice timing, Scott Clark ran his tuning school this past weekend at Fonse Performance and was able stop by the studio the night we record. This whole Drag Week thing has everyone wound up. Tom says we are winning, Mike wants to win, Scott says good luck with that! It's not as easy thing to do, and things that should not break do and just when you don't need them to. One aspect of these types of cars that cannot be stressed enough is tuning. Scott goes over some of the class events, the car they tuned, and the problems they had. If there is one near you we suggest you go check it out. He goes over the upcoming events so it's easy to make the time now. Speaking of winning, multi time winner of the 8.50 class Chris Bishir of Team 260 (two six oh) calls in to continue our Drag Week discussions. Chris has done Drag Week more than a few times, and he's the man to beat. He has this down, and nothing replaces experience. Everyone is gunning for him including Jason Doisher who called in from Anything Automotive. He's another Drag Week veteran, and even give his prediction on who finishes where. There is some great discussion here on the whole "game" of Drag Week. One thing we want everyone to pay attention to is Chris's discussion of the events they are promoting. This type of event is exactly what this sport needs. Pay attention to the details on this, and if you are close, show up. Fireman Jeff with the wonky rods stops by as well. He's got himself a nice new rotating assembly. He had a "mishap" and I know he wants this one right for the long haul. His Chevy SS will be back on the road soon. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 097 - Power and Speed - Jason Harding of Katech
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. This has to be said right up front, Mike has a toothache and is in pretty bad shape. Hopefully he get it fixed up at the creepy dentist tomorrow. As they say, the show must go on! A caller by the name of Shawn calls in. Looking for a valve train tech, and boy that is a subject. When it comes to valve train it's all about stability. People end up building on knowledge over the years, and can't replace practical experience and testing. The guys will steer him right over Facebook. Speaking of testing and knowledge, Jason Harding from Katech joins the guys tonight. Mike framed this well in the beginning of the show, if you don't know who Katech is you need to do a little research. Katech has been around the track just a few times, and by around the track we mean multiple wins in the 24 hours of Dayton, 24 hours of Le Mans, and just about every other form road racing event on the planet. Yes, Mike is a major fan, and you should be too. Jason discusses where they are now, and what they can do for the average guy looking for the right stuff. Think about this for a second, this is a racing outfit that builds the power to run full on for 24 hours! We think the best way to say this is, you can't get more serious than Katech. 096 - Power and Speed - Wild Bill Devine of Bullseye Turbochargers
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Another week, and more research. This really is the most important part of building a car, the planning process. Mike has been obsessed with learning every aspect of this and he is non stop both on and off the air. Just ask Tom, he ignores him all day. Now no one could ever say cars don't go fast without turbochargers. There are plenty of very fast cars out there running around without them and turbos are by no means a requirement for going fast. BUT, if you are trying to make something that can essentially go from mild to wild, you can't go wrong with turbocharging. Wild Bill Devine of Bullseye Turbo Charging is tonights guest. Bill has been in this game a long time, and there is really no need to go over the history of his racing involvement. Bill sets Mike straight on expectations, sizing, and behavior he can expect from properly sized and specd turbos. Ball bearing, inducer/impeller size, compressor housing, and exhaust turbine all play into getting the right units for the job. Listen in as the guys hash through this with Bill, he's always a great guest and he is welcome back on whenever he wants. 095 - Power and Speed - Tim Christ of Coast Chassis
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. So I am not sure how many of you follow "Chuck Ebr" on Facebook, but man this guy works hard to promote his events. Chu Esparza is his real name, and he started promoting events at airports a while back. Listen to this one to see what this has grown into. He's going to be back as his events get closer, and hopefully after the events to give results. Dragweek seems to be on everyone's mind lately, and the show is going to end up going that direction as things progress. Planning and research has taken center stage in most conversations in the studio lately. A rough game plan is in place, and the work is about to begin. That bring us to tonights guest. Tim Christ from Coast Chassis calls in to discuss the Dragweek project. This is not the ideal car to build for this class, but Mike owns it. It's a challenging car from almost all aspects. Driveline, turbo hot/cold side plumbing, electronics are all issues that have to be addressed. Tim also talked a little but about the suspension side of things, and what it takes to get cars to work. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 094- Power and Speed - Paul Yaw of Injector Dynamics
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Mike has all sorts of new blinking stuff here to send out a Facebook stream that meets his standards. This week was a test, and any feedback will be welcome. We are all pretty sure Mixlr is still the cool deal because of the live chat room, but if Facebook works better for some of you, great. The guest tonight had been requested over and over again by lots of listeners, and we were all really looking forward to this show. Paul Yaw of Injector Dynamics! The subject of injectors is often discussed, and aside from size, seldom discussed in detail. If you think about all the different aspects of injectors for just a split second you can start to appreciate how complex they are. What is the best placement? How important is spray pattern and atomization? What is the best fuel pressure for a given injector? All great questions, and a chunk of them get explained on this one. Paul is an extremely knowledgeable guy and full of great info. We will be sure to have him back sooner rather than later. if you are a fuel injection guy, you should listen to this one. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 093- Power and Speed - Octopus - Rod Bolts - Callers
Mike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Tom is has returned from Japan. Finally, Tom returns. He was in Japan for a trade show. It sounds like it was actually pretty interesting as long as you like octopus. He's a sick man, what can we say. The plan was to discuss Drag Week, and that was a complete swing and a miss. We need to get Tim from Coast and Howard from Redline in the near future to go over the loose ends. We will save that for another show. Somehow the topic of rod bolts and engine building gets started. Rod bots are by far the most stressed, as well as important, bolt in any engine assembly. There has been lots of discussion of torque, stretch, angle, and a variety of combinations. Mike is a straight up "know what you are working with, use your torque wrench guy". Tom sounds a little more of a stretch guy, and they both agree angle is a little strange overall. Lubes, torque wrenches, and techniques are discussed. It's not super high level stuff, but it is stuff you need to know to be successful at preventing an oil pan failure. Next Injector Dynamics Paul Yaw will be on. This has been a much anticipated guest, and we hope all you guys get questions together and send them on Facebook.... or better yet CALL. The guys will pick you up. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 092 - Power and Speed - Fudd returns (again)
EMike, Alan (AKA Fuddly), and Tad in studio. Tom is away again, and Alan stopped by to take his place. We mess with him constantly but he's a good sport. There was no real plan for tonights show, but it worked out ok overall. Drag week spare parts and issues people encounter comes up, and you can tell Mike is scheming away already. There are two different mindsets on how to do this. Mike wants to show up race and drive home. Alan wants to bring everything that has ever broken on a car in the last 5 decades. Mike rationalizes what he needs to make this successful out of the box. Then the subject of rules comes up.... Engine builders tend to think about things a little differently. They don't look at rules as a set of things you can and can't do. They look at rules for what holes the rules did not specifically close up. Mike knows the idea of the rules, but like to poke at them. 091 - Power and Speed - Scott Clark - Real Tuners
EMike and Tad in studio, Tom is on a covert special OP dubbed "Operation NutBowl". With this New Year the guys are going to continue focusing on getting quality quests. It's always a blast to learn from some of the best in the business. It's not always easy to schedule, but when we get them it's more than worthwhile. There was not guest scheduled for tonight because Tom was away. The show was going to be Mike, Tad, and good ole Fudd just shooting the breeze. That all changed over the course of the day when we received a message from.... Scott Clark of Real Tuners. Scott is going to be up in our area hosting an EFI school at Fonse Performance in South Jersey. The dates as we have them are March 4th and 5th, and details can be found on the RealTuners Facebook page. Scott was on once before, and is a professional level tuner to say the least. He has worked with many of the top names in our sport, and there is very little about fuel injection that he can't address. Mike and Tad discussed quite a few topics, and some of it does get a little more technical on this episode. Scott will be in for a "live" show on what we believe will end up being March 6th. Scott, and the guys, would like to have this particular show be a "Ask the FI Guy" call in show. All the listeners have plenty of time to gather questions, and this should be a great tech/learning experience. 090 - Power and Speed - BJ McCarty of VMP Performance
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Happy New Year Everyone! Lets make 2017 Healthy, Fast, and Safe! We are all getting a little concerned about Mike. He seems to be way way way into cleaning that Excursion. He really might need some help.... Tonight BJ McCarty of VMP Performance calls in to discuss the history of VMP and the the direction of the company as of late. Forced induction, specifically supercharging, has made its way under the hood of most domestic hotrods. Ford Mustang, Chrysler Hellcat, and Chevrolet Corvette to name a few. VMP has been known in the Mustang world for some pretty potent street packages utilizing the VMP superchargers. Our very own Fireman Jeff actually had one their units, and several goodies from these guys. The story of the company evolution is worth listening to, and it does not stop there. VMP is moving into markets other than Ford, and that sure should get the attention of some factory supercharged guys. Tom is in Japan next week, so Fudd will return once again to do the show. He was nice enough to make the little Power and Speed... uhh metal things.. I guess. So make sure to call in and thank em (or tool on em either or is fine) Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. Like us on Facebook by going to Power and Speed Podcast and follow us on Twitter @powerspeedpod. 089 - Power and Speed - Anthony Berton of Engine Building 101
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Well the holidays are here, and everyone is just coasting along. This is a great season, and everyone should set aside all our differences. Get a Ford guy a set of road flares or something for his stocking. Tonight Anthony Berton the founder of the insanely popular Facebook group, Engine Building 101, calls in. Antony started this because he was looking for legit tech help on the internet, and got really stupid info. Being smart enough to separate fact from fiction he knew the info was bad, so he decided to do something about it. He formed Engine Building 101 the Facebook group.... and started the cycle all over again. (he jokes about it, we are not busting his balls) It's a good place to go and get info if you know how to watch he right guys. Moderators and Admins are always on the lookout, and honestly we did find some very good conversation on the group. Go check it out. Laugh at the bad stuff and contribute if you really know your stuff. 088 - Power and Speed - Regular show - PRI
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. No official guest, but lined up (we hope) for the coming weeks. First we want to thank everyone who stopped by the Manley booth and tried to talk to Tom. He was all tear'd up talking about it before the show started. Tom did his yearly PRI show and as usual it was pretty hectic. He did say a bunch of guys came over to say whats up, and he did not get to talk to many of them. People who don't work the trade shows don't know what it's like. You end up at your booth and your booth only. None the less, it's nice to have people say hi. Show plans for upcoming weeks were discussed, and it looks like we finally might have Paul Yaw from IDI. We think that would be a tremendous learning opportunity, and we encourage everyone to hit em up and ask then he and Tony can get scheduled. Mike is off the rails with the detailing. Carpet extractor? Really? The levels of crazy in Mikes life cannot be explained. Make sure you check out Facebook to follow this latest obsession cause lord knows he can find his way there to post pictures. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. 087 - Power and Speed - The Fuddster Returns - Listener Calls
EMike, Fudd, and Tad in studio. Tom is on his way to PRI. Gotta say Fudd (Alan) did ok this time. A little bit of abuse, but a guest appearance well done. (and he was sitting in Tom's seat again) Fudd is actually building a car as well, and that becomes the topic of the conversation. He has a 1960s something Barracuda and it is going to get... what else... an LS 5.3 swap. Fudd wants to make a single turbo and is really trying to do this on the cheap. He did get a K frame, but the questions came up about internals and headers. The subject of rods and longevity came up and was actually some good discussion of Mike's practical experience. A few listeners call in to give feedback of Fudd's parts choice. Fireman Jeff also gave a call in specifically because he had a rod issue of his own. Make sure you guys at PRI stop by and see Tom. He's the guy that looks like Magnum PI. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 086 - Power and Speed - Matt from Sloppy
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. No official guest, but lined up (we hope) for the coming weeks. Mike gets pulled into a Mike story about a crazy girl and a Home Depot race car. This is a 100% true story. You can't make up the stuff that happens in life. Internet info. We have all looked for it, and we have all had to sift through BS to get a real answer for something. The engine technical side is about as bad as it gets. Anthony Berton will be on at some point in the future and he is the founder of The Engine Building 101 technical discussion group on Facebook. We will let him explain how it started but it is a nice resource to find info, BUT being able to identify what is the right info in the problem. Mike got into it with a guy who is a "record breaking Pro Five O builder" who ironically has nothing on his page about his accomplishments. This is what you have to know how to bypass to get to the right stuff. Anthony will for sure give you guidance on the group. Matt Happel from Sloppy Mechanics checked in after being prodded by Mike. He has been to the above mentioned resource. Matt also has had quite a few experiences with this type of crowd, and that can all be seen in the forum archives. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 085 - Power and Speed - Ben Strader of EFI University
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. The guys all had a very uneventful week. Mike abusing stalking Trump, Tom was un-friending everyone, and Tad well... who knows. With a slow weekend comes a cool Monday. Tonight we have Ben Strader of EFI University. We really can't impress on people how much info this guy has. People should also take note Ben spoke at the AETC conferences, and if you don't know what that is go check that out. One thing we can say for sure is one show with him is not going to cut it. Ben went over some of the base principals of fuel injection, and gave some really good hints at the foundation of good tuning. ECU brands, VE math, and other aspects are discussed on this one. EFI University has courses that range from very basic "this is an engine" to high level tuning skill sets. One thing of interest should be the HP Tuners and EFI live training for people who work on stock ECU type vehicles. This was a new deal, and sort of released on Power and Speed. Give this one a listen, and Ben will have to be back on many many times. 083 - Power and Speed - Matt Happel of Sloppy Mechanics
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. We all have our hostile friend. (Mike) If you are not interested in the election or you are prone to being "Triggered" you might want to skip ahead to 7:15. Mike is ranting... again. (but he's kinda right... again) Make sure you vote, that is the important thing. Tonights guest is a departure from what we normally have for guests, but that does not mean there is no valid information. We have had higher level people from higher level companies giving high level information in the past. BUT, our guest tonight can make a lot out of nothing. Matt Happel of Sloppy Mechanics joins the show tonight. Matt has a background in going VERY fast for less. He maintains an entire web resource to give people the information required to make a very conventional set of part go into the 10s or better. You really need to hear what can be done with conventional engines from a junk yard. It's not always about high dollar engines and parts. Matt will be back for more, and better yet, Matt lives close. Some point in the near future he will be joining the show in person, and that should be a good time. 082 - Power and Speed - Alan (Fudd) Returns - Tom at SEMA
EMike, Tad, and Alan (AKA Fudd) in studio, Tom is away at SEMA setting up. Well, it has been a long time since Alan has been around, but he actually volunteered to sit in for Tom. We hardly noticed a difference at all, and we thank Alan for stopping in. By now all the listeners know Mike might be a little nuts, but when he says something is good, listen to him. He decided to polish his tractor (yes tractor) and he set out to find the right tool for the job. We all have seen detailers use a wheel on a right angle grinder, and we also know that used incorrectly you have a giant burn in the paint. Mike being aware of his limitations found a product called the Cyclo Polisher. Of course he went all bat shit crazy and bought every pad set he could find, and the results are amazing. This little polisher brought the Excursion hood back to an unreal shine with conventional auto parts store polish. If you are into cleaning and polishing, look into this, we don't think you will be sorry. The Sloppy Mechanic has been on our discussion list for a while, and it turns out through the listeners they found us. We will have them on in the next few shows to discuss the virtues of the budget super fast builds that can be accomplished. Not everyone can pour money into a car, and sometimes you just don't have to. Tom called in from the SEMA show in Las Vegas, and let us know he will have some very good stuff lined up for when he comes back. Stop by the Manley booth and make fun of him, and be sure to ask him where the T shirts are. 081 - Power and Speed - JC Beattie from ATI Performance Products
EMike, Tom, Tad, and and Fireman Jeff all in studio tonight. It's been a few very good weeks with guest and subjects. All of us here want to thank the guests and listeners for making this so much fun for us to do. We will do our best to further improve, and we promise we will have T-shirts soon (Tom?? You listening??) Tonight we have JC Beattie from ATI Performance Products. This will be our third show with JC and we finally get to discuss automatic transmissions. JC is always a great guest, and the ATI episodes have loads of good information. The previous shows covered damper and converters and they are well worth a listen. There are loads of transmission questions, and obviously we could not address everything ATI knows in a single show. JC highlighted the benefits of the ATI Supercase. There is much more to this case than just buying just a new case for your trans. Pressure, flow, and how the case affects actual performance is all discussed. Like we said JC is always a good listen. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 080- Power and Speed - James Karger owner of LStuner.com
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. It's going to be hard to follow up a show like last weeks. Drag Week is a super cool concept, and the guy are truly interested. Mike has said it before, "you can't have a game without rules" Drag Week has rules and classes. Check out the rules and classes on line, there is something for everyone. The guys actually got a call during what we would loosely call "show prep" time. They talked to the caller, Steve from NJ, and had him hold until after the show open. Steve has a SRT Neon with a 2.4 and was curious about some specific engine questions. The guys did their best, but somewhat uncharted territory. Any real time feed back from listeners on this subject is more than welcome. Tonights guest is James Karger, Dallas freelance tuner and owner of LStune.com. James is the real deal, and well versed in many disciplines of tuning. He tunes everything from the restrictive Viper to the Holley EFI systems used by our guests last week. James is even involved with a dealer optioned Fireball Camaro with 700HP and a warranty. James is responsible for the tuning of Jason Doisher's ride for Drag Week, as well as his own class winning LS powered Mustang. James has loads of good info and insights into tuning and Drag Week. Give this one a listen, and we can't wait to have him back again to get more into the technical details of tuning. 079 - Drag Week - Jay Meagher - Clark Rosenstengel - Jason Doisher
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Once in a while things just work out and this show is one of them. We have a fan, Kevin, who offered to get us some guys who competed in the 2016 Drag Week event. We took him up on his offer, and it could just not have worked out better. Clark Rosenstengel was our first guest, and because the guys don't really follow Drag Week they really don't know anything about the guy. Turns out he uses Bullseye Turbos and we just had Wild Bill from Bullseye on two weeks ago. While talking to him further, we found out he won the class he was in and beat our next guest. His 2010 Camaro runs 7.60s at a weight of 4000LBS. It's quite a ride, and congrats on his hard fought win of his class. Jay Meagher from RealStreet Performance called in next. He drove Jared Holt's killer Supra and knew all about Clark and his path to winning the class. RealStreet is the real deal, and Jay will be back on for a full show at some point in the near future. Lots to talk about with this guy. The next guest was Jason Doisher with his STOCK, yes you read that right, STOCK 5.3 LS single turbo 84 Marquis. Yes, STOCK and goes 8.60s while weighing 3500 LBS. Jason has been competing in Drag Week for the past three years, and has loads of good competition info. All of these guys were great guests, and the show could have been three hours between them. We look forward to having them all back again. This one is a must listen. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. 077 - Power and Speed - Wild Bill Devine - Bullseye Power Turbos
Mike, Tom, and Tad in studio We are back after some very sketchy weeks of scheduling problems and personal issues. Last week show 76 with Mike's friend John and his son Matt is a little messed up. Turns out a seldom used RE20 Mic bit the dust. Mike IS working on it and he can save it when he gets a few spare minute. Trust us on this, when we tell you Mike is busy... you have no idea. Tom was unable to do last weeks show due to a last minute emergency, but two weeks ago he was at the Sand Sport show. For us here in the Northeast it's a little hard to understand, but the sand guys take things very seriously. We are talking about essentially dune buggy type vehicles with insane (1500+) HP levels and equally insane price tags (300K+). This is crazy stuff, and most of us knew nothing about it. We also got a little info about "The Chang's" McLaren 650s. This sounds like a hell of a ride. Tonights guest is "wild" Bill Devine. Bill has been around forced induction forever. If we look back to the guys who were the "computer age" fast turbo guys, Bill was right there. Here are some names that will ring a bell. Job Spetter Ken Duttwieler Hurley Blakeney Racin' Jason and the list goes on. Yes Yes Yes we know, there were many others before them, but this is the time when turbos met computers. That opened the floodgates and here we are today. Bill went from Ford performance to STS (rearmount) Turbos to Bullseye Power Turbos. They have some very interesting turbo wheel designs going and that alone is worth the listen. Very good history here and Bill is a great guest. They do everything from diesel to all out Drag so check out Bullseye next time you need a new hair dryer or two. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. 075 - Power and Speed - Keith Powell of That Racing Channel
EMike, Tom, Dingus, and Fireman Jeff in studio. Fireman Jeff stopped by the Power and Speed studio this week to drop off, of all things, heads for Mike to work on. Just when we though Mike was above anything that would get oil on his hands he proves us wrong. Tonights guest is Keith Powell of That Racing Channel. We really don't think he needs to much introduction here, but just in case you have been living under an internet rock, That Racing Channel has some of the best produced "car guy" videos out there. This really is an excellent story detailing the beginnings of the venture. These guys knew cars and just took it all from there. In case you did not know it, they themselves have a few rather interesting rides that are EXTREMELY fast. Good times, and we hope to have Keith back soon, and we hope Javier can make it next time. One big point to note. The have a pretty cool app for the iPhone, and if you don't have it (or an iPhone) you should. It gives very nice stats of the acceleration rate of your car. We are fairly sure Mike will have a few stories since he has been using it non stop in his car since the show. He will have one of three things come next Monday. 1) Results of how slow it really is 2) A broken car 3) Quite a few state issued critiques of his driving habits. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 074 - Power and Speed - Back from VaCa - Sponsor
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Seems like forever, but the guys are back. (honestly it was all Tom's fault) Tom again was traveling to far away lands meeting with his people. Lots going on overseas in the Dubai and Emirates region. There will be more on that as soon as the guys can talk about it. Our listener and Friend Jeff Chang took the plunge and got himself a McLaren 650. No doubt this has caused some serious envy in Mike's world. He has been talking about a McLaren forever, and Jeff is living the dream. Tom will be visiting him in the near future and will give it a nice review when he comes back. Congrats Jeff and thanks for making Mike even a little more miserable. Busted Knuckle Garage reached out to the show, and this is nice news on several fronts. The have offered to supply product for a Power and Speed give away. They have a cool product called the magnetic finger. Warren reached out to the show and gave a nice little bit of history on this venture. You should check the website out, and pick up some things for the local hangout/mancave. More on this next week. Tom does have some good guests lined up, and the hot vacation weather is almost behind us... that will really help with the scheduling. 073 - Power and Speed - Tim Christ of Coast Chassis Design
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Oh Boy, who does not love the Olympics! We certainly know Mike does. He highly recommends to check out the Women's Volleyball. Fantastic sporting event and the game play is very ummm interesting. It never gets better than these shows with good guests. Tonights guest Tim Christ of Coast Chassis designs and he never disappoints. Mike goes on and on about his fit and finish, but don't take his word for it. The next time you are at an event and see a car sporting his logo, go check it out. Tim touched on quite a few subjects. Suspension setup of 4 links, slapper bars, ladder bars, shocks. Good stuff. Give it a listen, and by all means if you need something done, he is the guy to talk to. It's worth noting a few little things. It seems Tad's musical taste of specifically "Dying Fetus" caused the last episode to toss a copyright flag. This is being corrected, and should be released soon. We have a hard time believing anyone would think we played that for enjoyment. Check out the Facebook page for the listeners cars thread. We have to say that there is no doubt our guys have some fantastic rides. Wow. Go look, good stuff. Tom will be MIA for a week or two with VaCa and a trip. We are going to schedule around it and we will see what we can do. 071 - Power and Speed - Howard Tanner from Redline Motorsports
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Tom went to a SEMA conference and was in the same room as Mike's hero's collectable race cars. Paul Newman's #33 owned by Adam Carolla was at the location for a photo shoot. Tom saw an opening to abuse Mike a little bit. As Adam would say... good times. Howard Tanner called in and he is always a good phone guest. Howard always has good stuff going on. It's nice to hear he is moving forward with his business. Redline will be relocating to a much larger facility. Howard has lots going on with the new C7 style Z06, including one that will be in one of the half mile "Wanna Go Fast" events. Stay tuned for results. Howard and Tom are headed back to Dubai again for some additional meetings. We really can't understand how these guys make it back without being arrested. Always a fun time With Howard. Mike is a little hostile about the election stuff, and he actually explained how the podcast started. This actually started out with the intention of a political podcast, we think they made the better choice. This is much more fun, but it was nice to hear how it came to be. Caller Scott North calls in, and let us say, we have lots of a respect for this listener. This guy is a real racer. He decided to run an NHRA stock class car. This is NEVER an easy task, and it's even harder to set records and hit indexes. Scott did both. Listen to hear about this guy's car...its not what you would think and shows what can be done. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 070 - Power and Speed - Keith Jones of Total Seal Piston Rings
EMike and Tom in studio. Cletus is caught in traffic. Tom was away on vacation last week... what did he do. Nothing, including return Mikes calls. I do not think we have heard the last of that one. Lots happened in the world why the guys were off. RNC nominated Trump, the DNC just got underway. Wow, sure called that one wrong huh "media". DNC opens with some leaks, and Mike shares his view on Debbie Wasserman Schultz. PowerStop brakes. Fail on QC, overall not terrible. I think in the end if you asked the guys opinion on this stuff, it's not bad. Worked out cheaper than an auto parts store, but just check everything over pretty well before you take everything apart. We always get requests for people to come back. Howard from Redline, JC from ATI, and already Robert from Forced Performance. We will always be happy to have guys back and this guest is no exception. Keith Jones from Total Seal Pistons Rings joined the guys for a second installment of ring tech. For those of you that did not listen to the first one, stop reading and do that now. This guy is "The Guy" when it comes to rings. Tom was quite candid in saying when they, Manley Performance, need to know about rings Keith is the guy they call. That alone speaks volumes. Keith was nice enough to let everyone know how to get in touch with him, and if you are going through an engine, we suggest you make that call. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. 069 - Power and Speed - Mike Abney NX Nitrous Express
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. A nice little bit of news from the guys. The podcast is now on Google Play, and Tunein. Two more places that people can find the audio to download. A caller by the name of Jason brings up the "super tuners". People who do the performance and tuning work on the exotics. We know they are out there but a little out of what the "Common man" would know about. Tom has spoken of the underground racing guys a few times, and maybe that could be a idea for a set of guests. Tonights guest was full of a lot of good information. Mike Abney from NX, also known as Nitrous Express. Mike was loaded with basic, and not so basic information. Nitrous is another one of those black arts sections of racing that not everyone has a firm grasp on. With the help Mike Abney from NX we will all get a little closer to understanding this. Timing, Fuel, Diesel, and two very interesting topics... Progressive and wide band controlled. Listen in even if you are a nitrous guy. There is always something to be learned from the real people in this business. 068 - Power and Speed - Robert Young - Forced Performance
EMike, Tom and Tad all in studio. One of the basic principals of Power and Speed was to give the chance for people to listen, and even get to talk to, people who make things happen in the performance industry. That is one of the things that makes it enjoyable to everyone involved. We hope everyone enjoys this one as much as we did. The mastermind behind Forced Performance and half the driving force behind Xona Rotor called in to talk all things turbo. What we realized about 10 minutes in is there is no possible way to cover all things turbo in a regular show. Robert explained many aspects of turbo size and usage in plain ole easy to understand terms. We all walked away knowing a lot more than we did. Some myths and facts were clarified along the way. Sure, we all know how much faster ball bearing turbos spool and how every performance car needs them... right? Or do we? Listen in to what will be the first installment of "all things turbo", and get your questions ready for the next time Robert can call in. While sending in questions for our guests we also need to hear from the listeners what night is best. We did Monday nights cause we thought it would be ok, but Tuesday night seemed to be good. Let us know. Listen to past archives on your favorite Podcast App, YouTube, and SoundCloud.

067 - Power and Speed - Dave Localio Headgames Motorworks
EMike, Tom and Tad in studio. Tuesday night show, and the live listener count was pretty high. The guys never expected any of that because of the nature of Podcasts. It's pretty cool overall, now all the listeners have to do is call. I wish we had a better social media guy.... Speaking of social media, our very own Tad has started putting the audio on YouTube. We think this will make it easier for people to find that are not as tech savvy. A listener and friend actually gave us the idea, and he also so we could actually stream live to that as well. We are looking into that and will let everyone know. Tad has also dug up some "information" on the new "hellcat" engine. We will leave that one right here until next week. Poor Tad. Dave Localio of Headgames Motorworks was on a very long time ago, and it's always great to have return guests. Dave fills us in on some of his latest accomplishments including a VERY serious Viper for the half Mile Drags. Dave is a lot of fun, and seems to mess with Mike a little. Mike exited the studio briefly to retrieve an MSD box that must have been in the model T fords. It has little or no value, but it sure is a cool old artifact. Check out the picture on Facebook. The guys have also got off their collective asses and started a real schedule for guests. Looks for much more advanced notice of the guests that are in line. Listen to past archives on your favorite Podcast App, YouTube, and SoundCloud.

065 - Power and Speed - JC Beattie of ATI Performance Products
EMike, Tom and Tad in studio after a week off. We have had guests from all different areas of racing over the course of the guys doing the show. We love it, and we really enjoy the opportunity to give the listeners a chance to hear from "The Guys" in our world of automotive performance. With that being said, JC Beattie from ATI Performance Products was on the show a bunch of episodes back and the intention of that show was to talk about all things ATI. What they do, how they make products better, and why the parts work. That went right out the window and the entire episode ended up discussing nothing but dampers. In the end that was a great show and it opened the door for JC to return to discuss other areas of the ATI product offering. If you wanted to know about converters and how/why they work. Listen in. The guys all liked this one, and we will absolutely get JC back for part 3. Transmissions. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. Like us on Facebook by going to Power and Speed Podcast and follow us on Twitter @powerspeedpod.

064 - Power and Speed - Anthony Disomma / Disomma Racing Engines
EMike, Tom and Tad in studio. I am not sure what goes on at the Power and Speed compound over the week, but some strange stuff goes on with the wildlife..... Tom tries to drag Mike into a camshaft discussion and I think what we learned is the guys would really like a good camshaft guest to come on. It's tough to ask an engine builder about cams because they can be like Mike, very focused on a particular "type" of motor. The guys floated a few names, and I am sure they will get someone. Anthony Disomma of Disomma Racing Engines called in tonight with a surprise 2nd person on the phone, Nick Bruder from Bruder Brothers Racing. Recently there was a rule change that was relatively focused on the Bruder's car. There is obviously lots to this story, some we heard... some we did not. The people involved in these classes know exactly what goes on. Mike told Anthony many shows back to he would run everything as fast as it could go at all times. Sounds like there might be some killer passes out of this camp in the near future. Anthony and Nick said it best, the race is won or lost during the week. Did you ever hear of a JR Dragster with a 4 speed gearbox? Of course not. You know why? This guy will tell you. Steve McAllister of Innovation Engineering built one! If you don't know who Steve is, then you never owned a dyno. Steve manufactures a host of dyno starter and drive dampening systems for most dyno systems.... as well as JR Dragster transmissions. Check him out. Fireman Jeff called in in the quest for the, dare I say, 10 second range from his street driven LSA conversion. Over 4000 lbs and this thing is getting faster every week. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. Like us on Facebook by going to Power and Speed Podcast and follow us on Twitter @powerspeedpod.

063 - Power and Speed - Tom Martino of Martino Racing Engines
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio. Tom Martino of Martino Racing Engines returns to the show after a long absence. Tom Martino has been around racing his entire life, and he has a perspective that all of us can learn from. It's not very often you can interact with an engine builder who has the level of experience required to field a NHRA Pro Stock team. The guys had a good time asking about some higher level topics. Roller cam roller bearings VS babbitt bearings, rings seal, titanium wrist pins and a few other deeper subjects. 062 - Power and Speed Podcast - Marco Passante of Magnus Motorsports
EMike, Tom and Tad in studio. Mike went to a Bernie Sanders rally to check the situation out. The guys did not get real deep into, but it sounds like Mike was not impressed. Marco Passante of Magnus Motorsports is tonights guest. Marco got his start with the Mitsubishi 4G63 engine, and went from there. After 20+ years of being involved with this industry there are many stories to be heard. Everything from 4G63 to GTR dry sump systems, Magnus does it all. The best way to understand the business model is "if it needs to be fixed, we will fix it" (although it was a little more colorful than that). I am sure most people who follow the GTR scene certainly know Ekanoo Racing. Listen in to this one, lots of good stuff for the GTR and 4G63 group and of course some healthy ball busting. 061 - Power and Speed - Brian Lohnes From Bangshift.com
EMike, Tom, Tad, and Fireman Jeff in studio. Thank god things are back to normal, well as normal as they get anyway. It's an unfortunate fact of life the guys have to work, and have things come up. Tom and Mike both had travel plans. Tom headed down south the see customers, Mike went on a 36 hour trip to Vegas for the NAB show. The guys should be good for a while here moving forward. Tonight the guys had a great guest. Brian Lohnes from Bangshift.com. Every car guy ends up surfing bangshift during their daily surfing routine. Brian has a damn good story about getting from where he started to where he is today. It seems like most of the things that really grow have no real formula for success, and as Brian said "Bangshift came out of a bunch of failures". Brian is much more than co-founder/owner and editor in chief for Bangshift. Announcing at NHRA events, NHRA on Fox pro-mod analyst, and also running a land speed sanctioning body makes for a lots of good conversation. Poor Jeff got left out of the intro. (Mike a little out of practice?) This guy has a cool ride. A very nice 2014 SS that just went through a transformation into an undercover LSA powered sleeper. More on him as tuning progresses. 058 - Power and Speed - Scott Clark Pro Tuner, DiyAutotune
EMike, Tad, and some guy named Tom in studio. Well everyone is finally back in studio after leaving Mike hanging last week. He's not pleased. Tom was away for like 27 days in Abu Dhabi at the Custom Show Emirates. The engine build and dyno shootout sounds like it was a great show and a really good time. The people of the Emirates have a very serious group of car guys, and some of the stuff they do sounds straight up crazy. Tom fills us in on the dyno and build shootout as well as some two wheeled fun. Not what you are thinking... you will have to listen. Tonight's guest Scott Clark and he is to say the least a very accomplished tuner. Scott has worked on just about everything. From Larry Larson's worlds fastest street car to NHRA Stock and Pro Stock. Scott has even been involved in the Engine Masters Challenge. That is a wide range to say the least, and there is lots of good information in this episode. (Street Outlaws fans, something in there for you too.) Sometimes you end up with some preconceived notions without knowing enough about it. We are all guilty of it, and the best we can hope for is keep an open mind. If anyone thought DIY Autotune was not something serious, you should listen to Scott Clark in this episode. The guys learned that DIY Autotune has some things going for it that deserve a very serious look. If you are looking for a platform, DO NOT skip over this one. Give them a look, you will be quite surprised. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. 056 - Power and Speed - TX2K, GM FAILS, EPA
Mike, Tom, and Tad in Studio. Our very own "Hollywood Tom" visited the Royal Purple raceway this past week for the Texas 2K race. This is a fairly interesting event in comparison to straight up drag racing. If people do not know what this is all about, think "roll racing" but at a drag strip. For most of the old school drag racers this is a little strange, but the numbers are very impressive. GM's fails can be debated and argued forever. The guys on the show are all GM guys for the most part. (Tad is sort of a Chrysler guy) It's really hard to understand from the outside why GM does what it does. Mike has a love hate relationship with the Excursion but at this point there is nothing to replace it on the market. Why can't GM make a Duramax Suburban? Diesel performance interest is pretty high, and lots of people love trucks/SUVs. GM are you listening? Mike has an idea, try not to get arrested. EPA and politicians, two very dirty words in most car guys vocabularies. Is this why we don't have the cool rides that seem like no brainers to build? It's hardly an excuse for GM's designs, but could explain the lack of vehicles people want to see. Nest week is up in the air. Tom is traveling to Abu Dhabi for the "Custom Show". He might call from the plane being the high powered celeb he is. Follow on Facebook to get updates on the plan for next week. 055 - Power and Speed - Howard Tanner Redline Motorsports
Mike, Tom, and Tad in Studio. Hollywood Tom will be doing his traveling again. Abu Dhabi (with Howard), TX2K, and others are in his schedule. Please if you are anywhere he is, ask for his autograph. Mike and Tad have a bet weather or not his head will actually inflate enough to explode. Howard Tanner from Redline motorsports called in tonight. Updates on direct injection are always welcome. Like or not, just like carb guys had to, embrace the newest tech that powers our toys. DI has quite a few advantages but at the same time needs the aftermarket to grow some new products. This entire method of fuel delivery gives a new set of parameters that must be taken into consideration. Shelby, Roush, and other factory purchasable hot rods have been available for a long time. Shouldn't GM have this too? We could go on about this here, but let Howard explain. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. 054 - Power and Speed - Keith Jones of Total Seal
EMike, Tom, and Tad in Studio. Keith Jones of Total Seal Performance Piston Rings is tonights guest and we have yet another guest that absolutely MUST return. Consider this as a part 1 of several parts on piston rings, hones, and overall ring seal discussions. The guys know the listeners wanted more technical guests, and these are getting better every time. Mike said it best, not everyone needs to know all the ins and outs of ring seal, but everyone needs to know if the engine builder they are talking to knows his stuff. Listen to shows like this, and you will be able to weed out the BS and make sure you get the most for your money. If you are an engine builder who already knows the ins and outs of this stuff, listen anyway. You can always learn something,,, even from a podcast. 052 - Power and Speed - JC Beattie from ATI Performance Products
EMike, Tom, Tad, and Crunch all in studio tonight. Tonight we have JC Beattie from ATI Performance Products. Listeners have said more tech talk. You got it. Very few times can you say a show is a must listen, well...this is one is a must listen. The guys did, key word here is DID, have a game plan on what to cover subject wise over the hour. That plan went right out the window once they started talking about dampers. If you thought you knew anything about the thing that is on the motor in the front that has timing marks, think again. We are not going to spoil this with a big long description... Just listen. JC will for sure be back to dive even deeper into transmissions and converters. I personally think the guys need at least two more with JC, one for converters and one for transmissions. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. Like us on Facebook by going to Power and Speed Podcast and follow us on Twitter @powerspeedpod.

051 - Power and Speed - 2016 Winter National EFI Pro Stock
EMike, Tom, and Tad in studio, Crunch could not get in because we had more wonderful snow. Well, the good news is NHRA Pro Stock had a full field, bad news is Tom won the pool with a guess of 209.50 and an event mile per hour record of 210.34. Poor Tad had 210.5, in the words of Maxwell Smart.... Missed it by that much. The NHRA Pro Stock field was, in Mike's eyes, somewhat surprising. In an effort to overturn Tom's victory he looked up altitude corrected MPH to see how fast they would have gone at sea level. The altitude was like 3000FT and that would make a good air pass of 218 ish. That looks as if they do not lose anything at all, and maybe in the end picked up some. There were some interesting notes. 1 pass was "Disallowed" and at the time of the show there was no further information as to what exactly "Disallowed" means. Hogan's Manifolds are the manifolds on all the fast guys so they found something for sure in the R&D side. They are all pretty sure injector placement has something to do with this. Hat's off to Hogan's, they have had some very good stuff over the years and it's nice to see them back on top. With that being said, it seems that a fair amount of stuff is still covered. That would mean to the guys that there is something in that area they felt was worth concealing. Tom said, and we can see from the pictures, the cars look great. It brings back the real look of a car even if somewhat exaggerated in the front end area. In the end, the guys think it overall worked out better than NHRA could have hoped for. Guest next week, and keep your Trans, converter, and harmonic balancer questions handy. Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways. Like us on Facebook by going to Power and Speed Podcast and follow us on Twitter @powerspeedpod.

050 - Power and Speed - Don Summerton Accelerated Performance
EMike, Tom, Crunch, and Tad in studio tonight. Tonights Guest Don Summerton of Accelerated Performance. Shows like this are always nice. There is nothing like talking to regular car guy who has made a great business for himself. That is exactly Don Summerton. Starting from his college hot rod days with his Firebird to his Supra of today, the guys discuss Don's journey to get to where he is now. The Toyota 2JZ market is a busy and competitive place. These engines have so much potential locked away inside waiting for someone like Don to bring it out. (and put it in a very serious Supra) Some of you might remember our very own Tom going to a Street Outlaws taping, and this Supra was the car Tom went with. Suffering a transmission failure took Don's chance away, but he is more than willing to give this another shot. Toyota 2JZ is not Don's only special, can you imagine a 7 second GTR? Give this one a listen, regular guy just like us Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com. Call in number 908 751 0211. 049 - Power and Speed - 24 Hours of Daytona - regular show
EMike, Tom, Crunch and Tad in studio tonight. No guest, but schedule starts next week. Watch for mixlr events and our Facebook for Details. Well, you will have weeks like this. It's crappy out, snow is melting and making that snowy mess that is so familiar to people in snow prone regions of the country. Translation, not much of anything going on... except for Hollywood Tom. Tom was invited to a distributor ssponsored event in the Dominican Republic to talk to customers about the products and how to better sell them in the motorsports market place. Must be nice to be "swimmin wit da fishes" while we were all dealing with melting snow. The Pro stock debut is very close. We are all waiting and watching to see how this shakes out. Soon enough we will see where this ends up for the first race. It's looking like from the info we have seen the Pro Stock teams are on it, and might not be off a whole lot. Mike did next to nothing all weekend except watch the 24 hours of Daytona. I have to agree with him, quite a race. Real car guys are not focused so much on the overall winner, but the classes of real cars. This year GTLMS and GTD. GTD was newly populated with Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Aston thanks to changes in the GTD rules to allow FIA GT3. It's pretty clear the Lamborghini guys sand bagged and need a little adjustment since they seemed to pass higher up class cars at will at times. Much to Mike's amusement, Ford kind of flopped with the new GT car. Trans, Brakes, electric, all sorts of stuff going on. In the end Corvettes, yellow no less, were 1 and 2 in the class.
