When it comes to adding borates to your pool you have three good options. You can use Boric Acid, 20 Mule Team Borax, or a manufactured product like Bio Guard Optimizer. But how do you know how much of which to add to your pool to bring it to 30-50 ppm. I go over the Rule of Thumb that I use when adding borates.
