The PodCask: a Podcast About Whiskey
402 episodes — Page 6 of 9
A James Old Fashioned + Lot 40 Cask Strength Rye Second Release
Will had to go over to Greeze's house for the episode. First, Will catches Greeze up on some stories that he missed out on in the last week. Then, on the 15, they try Lot 40 Cask Strength Rye, Second Edition. This whiskey is 11 years old, 116.8 proof, and 100% rye grain. Thanks to Eagle Rare and Eagle Rare Life for sponsoring this episode. Make sure to vote before December 5, 2018 for your favorite stories on EagleRareLife.com
An Afternoon at H. Clark Distillery + H. Clark Bottled in Bond
Will and the Greeze make an afternoon trip to H. Clark Distillery, which is not far from where they live. They have a great time with Heath, learning about his background and his whiskey. This episode is brought to you by Eagle Rare. Go vote for the Eagle Rare Life award at EagleRareLife.com.
BONUS: Episode 150
Happy Thanksgiving! This is our 150th Episode. We have an announcement at the end. That is all.
A Special Guest + High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
First, the guys talk about a bizarre whiskey glass that Will is using today. Then, they decide to see if a special guest will join them on the show... so you'll have to listen to find out how that goes! Then, after the 15, they drink A Midwinter Night's Dram from High West. We want to thank Eagle Rare for making this show possible. Go vote for your favorite story on EagleRareLife.com. You have until December 5 to vote!
The Liver Abides. The Appendix has Died. + Blaum Bros. OldFangled Knotter Bourbon
A bit of a unique episode, as Will and the Greeze have to record remotely. Greeze had some health scares pop up around his home, which he elaborates on. Then Will talks about his wife's new found taste for bourbon cocktails. Then, after the 15, they try a store pick of Blaum Bros. OldFangled Knotter Bourbon. Enjoy. Thanks to Eagle Rare for supporting the show. Make sure to go vote for the Eagle Rare Life award at EagleRareLife.com. Finally, if you want a Christmas card from Will and the Greeze, check out the link in our instagram profile.
Really Old Bourbon + Joseph Magnus Bourbon
First, Will brings up an article he read in the New York Times about some ultra aging going on at Buffalo Trace, and to his surprise, Greeze read it! You can read that article here. Then they start taking some listener questions, which were submitted on the Podcaskers facebook group. Then, after the 15, they try Joseph Magnus straight bourbon whiskey, triple-cask finished. Thanks to our sponsor Eagle Rare Bourbon, presenting the Eagle Rare Life Award. Go vote before December 5th at www.eaglerarelife.com.
5 Best Experiences + High West Double Rye, Rum Barrel Finished
Because a lot of our PodCaskers have been digging into the archive of the show, Will and the Greeze thought they would give a top 5 list of the best experiences they have had since starting the show. These experiences are whiskey focused, but a common theme emerges from them. It's a wonder that Greeze doesn't cry in this episode. Then, after the 15, the two drink High West Double Rye which was finished in rum barrels. This was a store pick from our buddy Don at Fairview Liquors and Fine Wines in Fairview, TN. This episode is brought to you by our inaugural sponsor: Eagle Rare! Go to EagleRareLife.com and read the stories of people living rare lives, then vote for your favorite. Your vote helps determine who will win $50,000 for the charity of their choice. Voting ends December 5th.
BARN NIGHT: Shock & Awe
In this very special Barn Night, Will, Greeze, Joe Bourbon, and Chris are joined by our friends Chase and Joshua for a night of competitive blind tasting, and mind-blowing whiskey. The theme for the competition was 100 proof whiskey. Sit back, pour a drink, prepare for greatness.
May the Bourbon Be With You + Old Scout American Whiskey
Yeah, we know it isn't a Star Wars bourbon. Yes, it's a bad joke in the title. Deal with it! First, the guys try James T. Kirk Straight Bourbon Whiskey that their buddy Logan brings over. Then, they go off on some rabbit trails. Then, they talk about the professional wrestling show that they produced: Dojo Pro. Then, they try Smooth Ambler Old Scout American Whiskey Single Barrel Select from Elixir in Spring Hill, TN. The pick is called "Ounce of Responsibility." Finally, Logan makes a request of Tarak from Elixir to name a pick: Tarak the Dinosaur Hunter.
Mystery Show + Warrior Whiskey + Old Ezra Barrel Strength
Will and the Greeze tackle some samples sent by listener Alex over a year ago. They are labeled Mystery 1, Mystery 2, and Mystery 3. They will remain a mystery, because it has been so long that Alex lost the list of what he sent us. We think one was a rum. Another may be Knob Creek. Who's to say? Then, after the 15, we drink Warrior Whiskey from Steamboat Whiskey Company. Then, we decided to do another 15, because we were late getting this show out... so why not have a little fun? We drink Old Ezra Barrel Strength. Then, because we have had a good amount to drink, we decide to drink some Old Granddad 114 and pretend like it is a third 15. Enjoy.
A Day Late, A Greeze Short + Aged Ham
A delayed episode, due to Greeze returning from vacation. He's super excited to recount his experience at Disney, that Will just lets him ramble about it for a while. Fortunately, he did have some good bourbon drinks while in Florida. Then, after the 15, they try the Weller 107 "Aged Ham" pick from Southern Whiskey Society.
BARN NIGHT: 101-110 Proof Bourbon
Will and the Greeze head out to the MADE SOUTH barn for another barn night with Joe Bourbon and Chris. The rules for this round are as follows: 1) all whiskey must be bourbon; 2) proof must be in the range of 101-110; 3) NO GREEZY BLENDS! Also, this is Will's first show back drinking, so what a time to be alive!
What Has Will Learned + Backbone Uncut Straight Bourbon Whiskey
First, Will talks about month without bourbon, as it comes to a close. Then, they talk about the stats of the upcoming BTAC release. Which leads to a rant from Will about small business and secondary market and price models... Then, after the 15, Greeze tries Backbone Uncut Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Enjoy.
Greeze Goes to the Store Again + Slow & Low Rock and Rye
Greeze goes to the store for him to buy himself some drinks, since Will is still not drinking. He cracks open a canned Chardonnay, so that sets the Greezy mood just right. Then, Will blinds him. Then, after the not-so-15, Greeze tries Slow & Low Rock and Rye. Enjoy.
Dry Month + Hunter's Select Barrel Tennessee Bourbon
Will takes a month off of drinking whiskey for Bourbon Heritage Month, and it dominates the beginning of the show. Greeze gets deep, folks! Then, they talk to Andy Chapman from Eat Y'all about an event at Leiper's Fork Distillery on Sept. 25. You can find out more about that at https://eatyall.com/connect-september-25-2018-leipers-fork-franklin-tn/. Then, they talk about Hunter's Select Barrel Tennessee Bourbon from Leiper's Fork Distillery. Greeze tastes it, while Will only noses it.
Southern Whiskey Society Batch 2, Part 2
This episode is the remainder of the Souther Whiskey Society event, and we cram quite a lot in. We recorded with Jimmy Sharp from the John Emerald Distilling Company in Opelika, AL, Perry Ritter from This is My Bourbon Podcast, Eric Roundtree from Tree House Macarons, and Dixon Dedman. Lots to unpack and we were several hours deep, so just try and take it all in!
Southern Whiskey Society Batch 2, Part 1
This is the first of multiple episodes coming out of Southern Whiskey Society Batch 2. Joining us on this episode are Chris Thomas, Suzie Q from Buffalo Trace, and our buddy Tim Gunderman. More shows to come, but this is a great taste of early in the evening.
Elmer T. Lee at Barrel Strength + 2017 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon
First, Will and the Greeze talk about endless shrimp coming in the next few months. Then Greeze brings over some alleged Elmer T. Lee at Barrel Strength, but it was in a mason jar and Will doesn't necessarily believe him. Then they try a blind sample from Brandon Rice, and Will sort of guesses it. Then, after the 15, Will and the Greeze drink some 2017 Birthday Bourbon for in honor of his daughter's birthday. Cheers! Last chance to get tickets to Aug. 25, 2018 SOUTHERN WHISKEY SOCIETY -- www.SOUTHERNWHISKEYSOCIETY.com
BARN NIGHT: Cocktails and the Trial of the Century
This edition of Barn Night we decided to do a cocktail competition, with each cocktail needing an element of creativity added. But before we get to that, we hold a kangaroo court to serve justice on Greeze. He betrayed Joe Bourbon's trust by opening the beaver bourbon at the studio without Joe B. being present. After sentencing, the cocktail competition beings. Below are the recipes if you would like to make them at home. Joe's: Muddled mint, 4 oz Whiskey of your choice (Joe used Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond), 1 squirt of Nellie and Joe's key lime juice, a splash of sweet tea, Goya Jamaican Style Ginger beer, to taste. Will's: 6 oz Peach Mint simple syrup (2 diced peaches, 1 bunch fresh mint leaves, 1 cup white sugar, just shy of 1 cup of water -- boil peaches, water and sugar until sugar fully dissolved. Stir in mint and let steep until cool), 5 oz bourbon (Will used Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond), 4 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice, 8oz water. Chris's: 1.5oz Weller Antique, 1/2oz dry orange curaçao, fresh mint. Stir everything over ice for 20 seconds then strain into a rocks glass. Splash with an ounce of Ale-8 and squeeze a wedge of orange into the drink. Greeze: 3/4 OLD GREEZY BATCH ONE, 1/4 luxardo cherry jam. "Garnish" with ginger ale, KY Ale 8 stuff, Monster energy drink white can, or Coke
A Tale of Two Owls + Russell's Reserve Single Barrel
First, Will and the Greeze get in a passionate discussion about Kentucky Owl Batches 1 & 2... and drink both on a fresh crack. That takes up the entire first half the show. Then, after the 15, they drink Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. The rest is in the details. Buy us a drink at http://patreon.com/thepodcask Come hang out with us at the Southern Whiskey Society event on August 25, 2018 -- tickets at http://southernwhiskeysociety.com
The Beaver has Landed + Lot 40 Cask Strength 12 Year
First, Will and the Greeze talk about how Greeze got food poisoning. Then they try some random whiskey from New Hampshire (wink, wink). Then, after the 15, they try Lot 40 Cask Strength 12 Year Old Rye. Then Will opens a Rhetoric 24 and they finish the show with it. Buy us a drink at www.patreon.com/thepodcask
Sail Away + Greeze Goes to the Store Round 1
First, Will and the Greeze talk about a listener who is doing something incredible, about pirate habits, and about how Greeze would like to attempt to sail across the ocean. Then for the 15, we try something new. Greeze stopped at the liquor store to pick up something we have never tried before and brought it over for us to drink. Will had no idea he was doing this, nor of what quality he was picking. This is a new reoccurring segment we will be calling: Greeze Goes to the Store. Barn Night: Under 100 Proof
Will and the Greeze trek out to the MADE SOUTH barn to drink some whiskey, and have a little friendly competition. In this edition, Joe Bourbon set the rules: all whiskey must be under 100 proof. See how it all turns out, in this edition of barn night. Also: make sure to get your tickets to Southern Whiskey Society. August 25, 2018 in Franklin, TN. Some big reveals about this year's event happen during the show. www.SouthernWhiskeySociety.com
Remote Show + EH Taylor Single Barrel
Will and Greeze realized, the night before Greeze was leaving for vacation, that they didn't have an episode for the week. So they did a remote show (Will at his own house and Greeze at his), and they let the PodCaskers watch them record it live! They talked about how people's tastes change (like Greeze's new love of Eagle Rare), the perfect bar to try our whiskies ranked "bar," and then Greeze tells the future of what happened to him on the 4th of July (disclaimer: this was recorded before the 4th of July, and he was not actually arrested). Then, after the 15, they try EH Taylor Single Barrel and Greeze apologizes to a listener.
7 Delicious Bourbons + Not Your Father's Bourbon
First, Greeze thinks he can stump Will by blinding him with George T. Stagg, William Larue Weller, and Lincoln Road's Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select. He was wrong, for obvious reasons. Then we have some delightful samples from our buddy Jon (@j5bourbons on Instagram). It includes JPS 25, Dusty 8yr 101 Wild Turkey, Old Rip Van Winkle from the 70s, and some Eagle Rare. Then, after the 15, we try "Not Your Father's Bourbon" that was sent by our listener Matt. It receives the buy, bar, pass treatment. Get tickets to the premiere whiskey event of the south: Southern Whiskey Society -- www.southernwhiskeysociety.com We will be there podcasting and drinking with you fine folks, so you won't want to miss this on Aug. 25, 2018.
We'll Drink it + Tin Cup
Will and Greeze try a line up sent by our friend and patron Aaron Cave. Four Roses OBSQ, Lincoln Road Barrell Bourbon, 15 year old Knob Creen from Cork n Bottle, Old Baldy Batch 1, and Jack Daniels Single Barrel picked by Lincoln Road. Then Will talks about whoopee cushions. Then they try Tin Cup American Whiskey.
Greeze's Musk + Jos. A. Magnus Straight Bourbon
Greeze starts off mellow with a simple "hey, guys," but don't let that deceive you. He quickly launches into a vitriolic diatribe against some less than popular candy varieties. Will is then reminded, due to the Greeze's passion, of a new whiskey product out of New Hampshire and decides now is the best time to let his counterpart know about it. It couldn't have gone better if Will had planned it from the start. Then they try Jos. A. Magnus Straight Bourbon from the private barrel selected by NASA liquors in Houston, TX. Can't wait to see how our friend Troy describes this episode. Buy us a drink -- or get invited to digital barn -- by visiting: www.patreon.com/thepodcask
Greezy Decanter + EH Taylor Cured Oak
First, Will presents a decanter to Greeze which was gifted to him in honor of all his greezy-ness by our friend Ty. To see a few pictures of the decanter, go join our Facebook group "the PodCaskers." Then, they try a sample also sent by Ty of Breckenridge 105 Bourbon. Then, after the 15, they revisit EH Taylor Cured Oak, which was not enjoyed at Beaumont Night. Enjoy! A Not So Blind Tasting + Jim Beam Signature Craft Soft Red Wheat
Will kicks this episode off with a bit of intrigue, as it looks like his mail may have been tampered with. Then they do a blind tasting provided by their buddy Vinh (@whiskeynimrod on IG) with Belle Meade Honey finished, Old Fitzgerald 11 year Bottled-in-Bond, and Woodford Reserve Batch Strength. However, it ends up not being so blind, as they figure out that they know the order of the whiskey. Then they go to the 15, and have Jim Beam Signature Craft Soft Red Wheat. It is an 11 year old, 90 proof release from Jim Beam a few years back, as a part of the Signature Craft series. All the whiskey in this line was bottled in 375ml bottles. Enjoy. If you'd like to support the show, and receive some killer bonus content: Patreon.com/thepodcask
Blanton's Vertical + Old Rip Van Winkle... Tequila?
Pretty straight forward episode, folks. First, Will and the Greeze do a vertical of Blanton's Special Reserve (Green), Standard (Tan), Gold, and Straight from the Barrel sent to them by listener Chuck. And then on the 15, we try Corazon Anejo Tequila aged in Old Rip Van Winkle Bourbon Barrels... because we can! And as a bonus, Will makes Greeze try another rum: Papa's Pilar.
Red Wax Tops + Kentucky Vintage
Will and the Greeze run the gauntlet in this episode. First, they realize they planned nothing for this episode and start drinking a side by side of Maker's Private Select and Cask Strength. Then, Will remembers that their friend Brandon sent them four blind samples (which had red dipped wax tops) so they get into that. Greeze revisits Longbranch somewhere in there. Then they go to the 15, and try Kentucky Vintage. Enjoy. To support the PodCask and ensure future episodes keep on rolling out, visit www.patreon.com/thepodcask
Straight Podcast + Jim Beam Distiller's Cut
Will and the Greeze, still recovering from last week's show, start off by recapping a little about the day before they got to the Brown Bag Beaumont Night. Then they discuss it being their 2 year anniversary of the PodCask. Then they talk about their new Patreon campaign to, "buy us a drink." You can now fulfill the ask of "sending us $5 in the mail." Then they go to the 15, and drink Jim Beam Distiller's cut. Enjoy. If you want to support the show, and get some exclusive content: www.patreon.com/thepodcask
Brown Bag Beaumont Night
After picking a barrel of Weller Antique earlier in the day, Will, the Greeze, Chris from MADE SOUTH, Joe Bourbon, along with Chris Veal, Phil Sokic and "Toad", are hosted by Dixon Dedman at the famed Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg, KY for a brown bag taste off. There are 7 bourbons, plus some surprises along the way. Easily one of the best PodCask nights ever.
BINGO + Wild Turkey Longbranch
In this episode, Will and the Greeze start out by drinking a high proof rye. Greeze hadn't eaten solid food on this day, and he allegedly ran a 5k during the lunch hour (when he should have been eating solid foods) so the gets Greezy real quick. Then they go over some news of the week. Then they try a blind flight sent to them from their friend Brandon. After the 15, they try Longbranch from Wild Turkey. Try and keep up. This one is a doozy.
Greeze Starts a Cult + Old Overtholt Bonded
In this episode, Will and the Greeze try a sample of the J. Henry single barrel selected by the Speakeasy Wisconsin. Then, we find out that Greeze doesn't remember anyone that he has ever interacted with. Then he discusses starting a cult. Then, after the 15, they drink Old Overholt Bonded.
Brown Bag Barn Night: Spring Edition
Will and the Greeze join Chris from MADE SOUTH and Joe Bourbon from @BourbonFindoftheDay at the barn for another brown bag action. Also, Greeze broke the chair he was sitting in.

First, Will and the Greeze discuss the new Weller C.Y.P.B. announced and go through the the whole Craft Your Perfect Bourbon widget on Buffalo Trace's website. Then they change the name of CYPB to Weller PBR. Then they go to the 15 and drink Pinhook Straight Rye "Bourbon N Rye" release. There is lots of random banter thrown in. Enjoy.
Back in the Studio + Blanton's Straight from the Barrel
Will and Greeze drink lots of different whiskey this episode, because it's at their disposal since they are back in the studio. First they try the newer iteration of Old Bardstown. It's 90 proof, distilled by Willett, and it's also widely available. Then, Will blinds Greeze with a nice pour that Joe Bourbon gave us. Then, after the 15, they drink Blanton's Straight from the Barrel and give it the Buy, Bar, Pass treatment.
PodCruise 2018 Live! + Bookers Batch 2013-7
This was a live taping on the high seas aboard the Norwegian Epic on the PodCruise 2018. Logan and Bart from BLT Lunch-break join Will and the Greeze to talk about whiskey and some fun cruise stories. They drink some Carothers Belle Meade Store Pick that Greeze smuggled on the boat, as well as Bookers Batch 2013-7 (7yrs old, 128 proof), which was at the ship's whiskey bar. We forgot to Buy, Bar, Pass it, but we would definitely rank it as a "buy." Enjoy.
Pre-cruise Flight and a Blind Flight + J. Henry Patton Road 7 Year
This episode was recorded in a hotel room in Orlando, late at night, before leaving the next morning for the PodCruise. Dillon and Allison came up to our room to talk about the awkward flight down, and do a blind flight from Alabama courtesy of our buddy David in Birmingham. Then they go off the rails and drink some J. Henry Patton Road 7 Year. It was a long day... and you can tell.
Listener Questions Episode
In this episode, Will and the Greeze took questions from our facebook group "The PodCaskers" and spend an hour responding... late at night... after they had been drinking quite a bit already. Give us your feedback on this episode, since it's a bit outside of the norm! Also, you can join in the fun of the PodCaskers by going here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thepodcaskers
Late Night, Late Episode + Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye
This episode was recorded late at night, so the boys are little saucy to begin the thing. Then they starting drinking, and it all goes down hill. They talk about the new Old Fitz, which was announced by Heaven Hill. Then they talk about NEAT: The Story of Bourbon. Then they talk about Thorny Nectar. Then they go to the 15 and drink some Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye. And finally, Will tells his car buying story.
Mail Call + Old Sparty Batch 1
Some things came in from a couple of listeners, so we thought we would make a show about it. First, we A/B two blind samples from our friend Ty (@SWBourbon on IG), then we reveal what they are. Then we try a sample of Sam Adams Utopias (aka $200 beer). Then we try 5 whiskies sent by Blake (@whiskeyblake.sparty on IG) in Michigan... then we blend all 5 of the samples he sent to make Old Sparty Batch 1. Cheers.
Banning Boots + Crown Royal Single Barrel Store Pick
First, Will tries to have a conversation about a movement to open 7 day liquor sales in their state. Greeze derails this conversation. Then they go to the 15 and drink a surprising dark-horse whiskey (or I should say "whisky"): Crown Royal Single Barrel Select from Elixir. It has a bourbon mash-bill, aged 9 years in new, charred American oak barrels, and is 103 proof.
BONUS: BLT Happy Hour
Will and the Greeze invite Logan and Bart from the podcast BLT Lunch Break over for a few late night drinks. Enjoy the bonus episode. http://www.bltlunchbreak.com https://www.instagram.com/bltlunchbreak/ https://twitter.com/bltlunchbreak
A Gift + Stagg Jr.
Greeze is given a gift from our buddy Scott. Then Will and the Greeze go on a rant about their lunch experience. Then they drink Stagg Jr. after the 15. That's basically it, but with a lot more rambling in between. Enjoy.
Bourbon and Leather + Col. EH Taylor Barrel Proof
Will and the Greeze have Andrew Lynch from Jackson Wayne leather over to the studio to talk about bourbon, leather, and the bourbon bag (which is made out of leather). Then they head to the 15 to drink Col. EH Taylor Barrel Proof. To find out more about Jackson Wayne and the bourbon bag, visit www.jacksonwayne.com or visit the Jackson Wayne instagram page @JacksonWayneLeather Enjoy!
Marathon Greeze + Rock Hill Farms
First, Will airs some grievances about the weather. Then Will tries to figure out what it would take –in terms of whiskey– to get him to run a marathon. Then, after the 15, they drink Rock Hill Farms and give it the buy, bar, pass treatment.
Brown Bag Barn Night
Will and the Greeze go hang out with Chris and Joe Bourbon at the MADE SOUTH barn for a little brown bag action. This edition's rules: cloak your whiskey in a brown bag or something similar to mask its identity, spin a bottle to see who goes first, and no one reveals what they brought until after we have voted on our favorites at the end. It was a blast.
