#939 - Beth McKee
#939 - Beth McKee The Beth McKee Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? If you’re here, I hope you’ll join in our excitement. Now, The Paul Leslie Hour is a place where we bring you interviews with interesting and creative people. This interview with singer-songwriter and recording artist Beth McKee is one that your host Paul has a lot of fondness for. It originally broadcast on the radio in January of 2010. It’s not been heard since then. So, to understand our guest Beth McKee you have to go back a bit. She toured with harmonica legend Greg “Fingers” Taylor in a band called “The Lady Fingers Revue,” and they were the opening act for Jimmy Buffett. Not long after that, Beth joined the all-female Bayou band “Evangeline,” which was signed to Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Records imprint in the 1990s. What a great band they were! A very interesting tidbit, Jimmy Buffett suggested that Beth McKee would be well suited to perform a Bobby Charles song during the Evangeline live shows. Maybe Jimmy was onto something. It was kind of fateful. Fast-forwarding to 2009, Beth McKee released “I’m that Way”featuring all songs written by the late great Bobby Charles. Now, some of you may know the name Bobby Charles. A Cajun man, Bobby was born in Louisiana and wrote some of the all-time classics “See You Later, Alligator,” “Walking to New Orleans,” and “I Don’t Know Why, But I Do.” Beth McKee covered all of these songs and more. The Bobby Charles songbook was excellently interpreted by Beth McKee. Before we start, you should know that you can give yourself and others the gift of stories. We have a lot of interviews that we want to make available to the masses. Just go right here, and we thank you. And with that, I think this interview with Beth McKee best be seeing the light of day once more. We thank you for listening. Let us know what you think.

#938 - Rockin’ Dopsie Jr.
#938 - Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. The Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? Woah! There you are, tuned in to The Paul Leslie Hour. We’ve got something good for you. This interview originally went out over the radio. I think it was around 2010. Your host Paul Edward Leslie spoke with the legendary Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. Now, Dopsie is pronounced Doop-see, and the band many of you know is Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. & the Zydeco Twisters. They’re fabulous live, and you’ll love their recordings. Junior’s father was a zydeco legend, Rockin’ Dopsie Sr. The family vowed to keep the music and his memory alive. They have kept that promise. Rockin’ Dopsie Jr’s band has shared the stage with the best of the best: Tina Turner, the Neville Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Buffett and Dr. John. They’ve recorded with Bob Dylan and Cyndi Lauper. Oh, and you know the Paul Simon song “That Was Your Mother,” an undeniably Louisiana-influenced track? Yep, they appeared on that too. Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. also famously appeared on the renowned compilation CD put out by Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Records entitled “Margaritaville Cafe: Late Night Gumbo.” Dopsie contributed two tracks: “Please Don’t Leave Me” and “I’m Coming Home.” You know, we love bringing all of these interviews to you all, but did you know you can keep up with all of our content and help us by subscribing to Paul Leslie’s YouTube channel? We need to get about 700 more subscriptions to meet our goal. It’s going to be tough, but maybe you’ll hit the subscribe button and also ring the bell. There’s no party like a Rockin’ Dopsie party, so on that note all we have to do now is enjoy.

#935 - Five O'Clock Somewhere - Don Rollins & Jim "Moose" Brown
#935 - Five O'Clock Somewhere - Don Rollins & Jim "Moose" Brown Interview Are you here? …. Just where are you? Whether you’re in New York or Los Angeles, well, really anywhere in the world—five o’clock is synonymous with calling it a day and enjoying a cold beverage. Maybe your cold drink is the famous Hurricane cocktail made famous by Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans. We heard our friend Dave Hooser was hanging around in the French Quarter, but he didn’t necessarily wait till five o’clock. He knew it was…five o’clock (pause) somewhere. Most of you know the song “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” that was recorded and made famous by Alan Jackson and the late Jimmy Buffett. It became a very important song for Jimmy Buffett. “It’s Five O'Clock Somewhere” remains Jimmy Buffett’s only #1 hit. He performed it close to 600 times over the last 20 years. In fact, Jimmy sang it as a duet with Mac McAnally at his very last performance on July 2nd, 2023. Your host Paul Leslie had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Don Rollins and Jim “Moose” Brown, the two songwriters who wrote the hit “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.” The interview took place in a recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee—years and years ago. We’ll play it shortly. “It’s Five O Clock Somewhere” written by Rollins & Brown catapulted Jimmy Buffett even more into the public spotlight and gave him lots of airplay on country radio. It spent 8 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the Summer of 2003. The song also won the CMA Award for Vocal Event of the Year as well as the Grammy for Best Country Song of 2003. It was also #17 on the US Hot 100 making it the most successful pop hit for both Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett. Billboard named “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” as the Most Played Country Song in 2003. Right quick: The Paul Leslie Hour has been archiving and distributing interviews for more than 19 years. It’s made possible in part by listeners and viewers like you. Give yourself and others the gift of stories, just go right here. We don’t take you being here for granted here on The Paul Leslie Hour. We have an interview with the über-talented Will Kimbrough that went out on the radio airwaves years ago. The interview was recorded on November 18, 2006 at the famed live music venue Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia. Now, Will Kimbrough is an artist very worthy of your ear. He’s one of those all-around musical artists. He’s got a commanding voice, but he’s also a gifted songwriter. As a guitarist he’s greatly respected, but he’s highly regarded as a record producer too. You’ll want to delve into his records, believe us. You listen to Will Kimbrough and immediately think — I need to listen to more of this guy! It was just the first few years of Paul’s broadcasting career. Ha ha. Boy did he sound a bit like a rookie, but you’ll notice that Will Kimbrough gives a lot of great, interesting details. They talked about “Americana music,” Will’s Mobile, Alabama origins along with musical influences. Will Kimbrough also talks about his song “Piece of Work,” which Jimmy Buffett recorded. Just as a heads up, Will Kimbrough co-wrote the song “Bubbles Up,” which will appear on the Jimmy Buffett album “Equal Strain On All Parts.” The posthumous album will be released on Mailboat Records on November 3, 2023. #932 - Josh Kear The Josh Kear Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? One of the things we like most about The Paul Leslie Hour is that we can uncover something that went out over the radio years ago and listen to it in the here… and now. People just like you listen to these interviews totally in the present. The present we’re in. We’re going to give this interview with Grammy award-winning songwriter Josh Kear a spin. Back in 2007, three songs co-written by Kear entered the country charts: “That's How They Do It in Dixie” by Hank Williams, Jr., “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood and “Bama Breeze” by Jimmy Buffett. (Josh wrote the Buffett track with Chris Tompkins and Mark Irwin) The same year “Before He Cheats” won the Single of the Year Award at the Country Music Association Awards. A few months later, it won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song. It’s one of the longest-charting hits in Billboard history. Josh Kear did this interview with Paul Edward Leslie to talk about some of his famous songs and also about “Blue Pearl Paradise,” his somewhat underground album of original island songs. Josh is such a nice guy he sent us the demo of “Bama Breeze” to play and we’ll all listen to that together. Before you forget, remember to subscribe to Paul Leslie’s YouTube channel and also like this video and leave a comment. You won’t want to miss any of our interviews or reviews so ring that bell. Now let’s hear from our special guest Josh Kear. Whatdya say? It’s time we listened. Together.

#931 - Robert Greenidge The Robert Greenidge Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? Dorothy said “there’s no place like home.” When you’re listening to The Paul Leslie Hour, we hope you feel like: “there’s no place like here.” On this episode we’re celebrating Mr. Robert Greenidge. You’re about to hear an interview Paul did with Robert Greenidge in a hotel room the night before he was to perform with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band. The conversation began with Robert’s solo album and from there went into a variety of directions. Robert Greenidge is a man who has lived by and for the steel drum. Sometimes called Robert G., he is a recording artist, entertainer and composer. He also fronts the band Club Trini along with partner and friend Michael Utley. He’s a member of the Trinidad-based steel drum band The Desperadoes. Robert has recorded with artists ranging from Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Robert Palmer, and others. Robert has been a member of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band for 40 years—since 1983. With the unfortunate passing of Jimmy Buffett, many are asking what will become of the Coral Reefer Band without Jimmy? The Trinidad Express newspaper recently interviewed Robert, and he suggested the band may carry on. Remarking on the passing of Buffett, Greenidge said “Would he want the show to go? Absolutely! He would say, ‘rock on!’” Interesting idea, isn’t it? Mr. Greenidge is about to share some great stories, but real quick—consider giving yourself and others the gift of stories. You can do that_ _by going right here. Paul has many more great interviews in store for you. Be one of the people who keep this show going. And with that, let’s hear from Robert Greenidge.

#922 - Bahama Bob
#922 - Bahama Bob The Bahama Bob Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? Oh… you must be busy… busy, being here. Thank you for joining us right here, on The Paul Leslie Hour. We’ve got an interview with Bahama Bob that’s been just waiting to come out. It originally broadcast on the radio in 2007, but the interview itself was recorded in a very nice hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. Bahama Bob you may be asking? Some of you already know. When your host Paul first became aware of Bob, his first thought was: “He seems like a real baller.” Good word to look up in the dictionary: “baller.” This man, Bahama Bob splits his time between living in the United States and the Bahamas. He is a boater, operator of a Bahamian resort, oh and he’s a Jimmy Buffett fan, too. So he’s got that going for him. Which is nice. This is a man who has taken life by the teeth, and has worked hard, but maximized fun. Bahama Bob is going to share with you some of his philosophies in life…which includes kissing frogs (in the metaphorical sense.) He is a man who truly has the island spirit. Before we begin the interview, I’d like to invite you to please help us out by subscribing to Paul Leslie’s YouTube channel. We’re trying to get to 3,800 subscribers by mid-October. We just had a big, big boost. We thank you for that. Subscribing is easy and free. With that little announcement out of the way, let’s get the Bahama Bob interview out there into the world! Oh yeah, and hi Dave!

As I said, it’s since closed it’s doors, but this interview is interesting nonetheless. Let’s get into the who. This is an interview with Mark Fragale. Mark was the curator of the Honolulu Surf Museum which was located at Jimmy Buffett's at the Beachcomber, Jimmy Buffett's restaurant and bar. Mark is considered an expert on surfing history.
