In recent times, a race to slash fuel costs and carbon emissions has heralded a new era of sailing. As a result of this, the first ever modern cargo ship purpose built to combine both diesel and wind propulsion will be launched from a shipyard in Shanghai at the end of the month.
Dr James Mason, Wind Assist Technologies Researcher at the University of Manchester explained it all to Pat this morning.
