Show Notes

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Oregon Weather Podcast — it's Tuesday, February 24th. Step outside and you'll feel it. That damp, heavy air that clings to your jacket and turns every sidewalk into a mirror. We've already picked up eight-tenths of an inch of rain in the last day, with another quarter to half-inch on the way. Classic late-winter Oregon — where the sky forgets how to stop. An atmospheric river is parked over us. And it's not done yet. Rain keeps coming through tonight. But here's the twist. While the valleys stay soggy, the mountains are getting interesting. A Winter Weather Advisory runs until 10 A.M for the Upper Hood River Valley above 1,000 feet. Slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses, with a trace to an inch of slushy snow possible. Not enough to build a snowman, but just enough to make your commute feel like a video game set to hard mode. Down in the Willamette Valley, the rain peaks around 4 A.M with steady downpours. Highs struggle to 49 degrees by 3 P.M, then we drop fast to 38 overnight. Tomorrow brings a slight break — highs near 52 with just a 40 percent chance of lingering showers. But frost creeps in by Wednesday night, with lows dipping to 35. Head south and you're getting the worst of it. Another half-inch to three-quarters adds to the puddles. Highs reach 53, but it'll feel cooler with those steady showers. By Wednesday, things dry out, but widespread frost takes over. Lows plummet to 30 degrees, so cover those tender plants tonight. Now push east to Central Oregon. Rain turns to a wintry mix overnight, with snow mixing in after midnight. Winds crank up to 9 miles an hour, gusting to 21. That'll make it feel like 32 degrees by early Wednesday morning. We finally dry out late Wednesday as high pressure builds in. Sunshine returns Thursday and Friday, with highs climbing into the mid-50s by the weekend. But frost becomes the new overnight norm, especially in the valleys, where temps dip below freezing Thursday and Friday mornings. One bright spot? We're gaining daylight fast. Sunrise at 6:59 A.M, sunset at 5:51 P.M. That's nearly 11 hours of daylight. And every extra minute feels like a win right about now. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
