Show Notes

Good evening. Oklahoma. I'm Michael Mosby. Happy Saturday, folks. We're tracking a serious wind event for your Sunday. A powerful cold front is sweeping down from the Plains, bringing dangerous gusts and a sharp temperature crash. As the sun sets. It's warm and breezy right now, with temperatures in the 70s under a mostly clear sky. Enjoy it while you can, a cold front will slide into northwest Oklahoma after midnight. Tonight, lows will be mild, only dropping to the upper 50s. The front races through by morning, behind it, northwest winds will howl. Here comes sustained winds of 30 to 40 miles an hour, with gusts potentially hitting 65 miles an hour in western sections. This is dangerous. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Panhandle and western Oklahoma. A Red Flag Warning is also posted for critical fire weather conditions, humidity levels will plummet to around 15 percent. Any spark will ignite rapidly, blowing dust could drop visibility to near zero at times. If you're driving near the Panhandle, remember: Pull Aside. Stay Alive. Temperature-wise. Temperatures will crash throughout the day. You'll start the day in the 60s but end it in the 40s. Clearing skies and calm winds Monday night set the stage for a hard freeze. Lows will plummet into the 20s statewide, wind chills will sit in the single digits during your morning commute. You'll want to cover the plants and bring the pets inside. Monday stays cool with highs in the 40s, but the cold doesn't last. Tuesday starts a massive warm-up, highs rebound to the upper 60s. By Thursday, we're talking near-record heat, highs will approach 92 degrees in central Oklahoma. The pattern stays dry, so the fire risk remains elevated all week. As the sun sets. Charge your phones and fill up the gas tank before tonight. โ€” we'll be back with your next forecast evening. See you tomorrow.
