Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Ohio Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th.
That sunshine feels good right now, doesn't it? Soak up every ray.. Because a cold front is carving through Ohio as we speak. And tonight the bottom drops out.
Southwest Ohio is winning the temperature game today. Highs pushing 53 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Gusty west winds up to 29 miles an hour, though. The kind that grabs your car door and tries to rip it off. A few snowflakes could sneak in after 3 A.M., but we're talking a dusting at most.
Slide over to Columbus and central Ohio. You're topping out around 48 degrees this afternoon. Same wind, same sun. Tonight you fall to 26 degrees. Keep that in mind if you've got plants flirting with the outdoors.
Now up in northeast Ohio, it's a cooler story. Partly sunny, high of 40 degrees. That 16 mile an hour west wind off Lake Erie will cut through every layer you own. Lows tonight sink to 22 degrees. The snowbelt might see a few flurries courtesy of the lake, but nothing that'll stick around.
Folks, we're gaining over two minutes of daylight today. Sunrise at 7:12, sunset at 6:20. Spring equinox is three weeks out.
Now the week ahead gets interesting. Thursday stays cool and quiet. Then Friday and Saturday.. Temperatures jump into the mid 50s, maybe kissing 60 degrees. That's weekend weather worth planning around. But here's the twist. Sunday into Monday, a winter storm system takes aim at Ohio. Rain, snow, maybe both. Some models are hinting at accumulating snow. Too early for details, but I'll be watching it closely.
Charge your phone tonight and check back tomorrow for the latest on that weekend storm.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
