The final episode of 2021. And it’s a big one. Over half an hour of unfiltered Casey Stoner. S3 Ep 13Cal Crutchlow: taking a leap of faith & only listening to those that really matter

E

A podcast we never thought we’d get to do. But here we are. Cal Crutchlow, retired, but not. While on substitute duties at the AragonGP, we sat down with Cal to talk about what retirement is like (yes, a few aches and pains!), taking the leap from WorldSBK to MotoGP, and learning not to take comments from fans & the media to heart following a difficult first season in the premier class. Plus, for any cyclists out there - we get the low down on some of Cal’s training ‘techniques’/quirks. Insight, a different perspective than we’re used to on the podcast, and some laughs along the way. It was great to have Cal Crutchlow back in the paddock for a brief time in 2021.  Hosted on Acast. S3 Ep 10Jorge Martin: Resilience & converting speed into wins

How does a MotoGP rookie get a pole position & podium in their second ever race? And then their second pole & a WIN in their SIXTH race? Jorge Martin is well and truly living his dream, he still can’t quite believe he is in fact a MotoGP rider, let alone a rider capable of winning in the premier class in his first season. We recorded this podcast with Jorge on the Thursday before the Styrian GP and wanted to know how he’s so resilient and able to return after set back & after set back, why he’s always been so fast over one lap, how he’s managed to convert that into victories in all classes… AND how he (at the time) planned to do that in MotoGP. Little did we know what was to happen on Sunday. Remarkable. The podcast blessing is back! Expecting an orderly queue of MotoGP riders who want another podium or win to turn up ready for a chat at Silverstone now… Enjoy!  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Which aspects of his job does Brad Binder like the most? All questions put to the South African World Champion and MotoGP race winner for this week’s episode. His response about mindset and attitude was something we found particularly interesting, ‘focusing on the now’ something similar to what we heard from his former team boss, Aki Ajo in a previous episode. S1 Ep 20Wilco Zeelenberg: riders after retirement… and a disastrous first day in a new job!

The last few episodes of the podcast have had us thinking about riders and what they do after they retire. Do ex-athletes fill out the other roles in their respective sports better than non-athletes? Does having competed in the sport mean you automatically have all the necessary skills to exceed in your post racing career? A lot of us probably have a good idea about the answer to some of those questions already. But we wanted to speak about the topic, and as ever get to know a little better, a man whose post racing career has far outshone his competition career back in the day. Wilco Zeelenberg is a one time 250cc Grand Prix winner and as team manager, he took Jorge Lorenzo to three #MotoGP World Championships, Cal Crutchlow to his World Supersport Championship, and now is the team boss at Petronas Sepang Racing Team in MotoGP™… which you may know, just took victory in Misano with Franco Morbidelli and two previous victories this year with Fabio Quartararo… they’re pretty decent, to say the least. He also was the first ‘rider performance analyst’ in the MotoGP™ paddock, that’s “rider coach” to you and us, so basically is responsible for creating an entirely new job in racing. So what does he think of that? How did he decide the moment to retire from riding? How did he then rise to the very top of the sport once again? As you’ll hear, it was far from straight forward - even on his first day in the new job!!Hope you enjoy the episode, leave a review if you liked it pretty please and any comments, get in touch using #MotoGPpodcast on Twitter, or comment below the YouTube version of this podcast!See you soon! S2 Ep 15Greg Minnaar: the Valentino Rossi of Downhill Mountain Biking

Who is the Greatest of All Time, or ‘GOAT’, of MotoGP™? Depending on who you ask, it could be one of several different riders from the over the years. Is it just about number of wins and championships? Does impact and influence on the sport come into it as well? It’s probably an argument that will never be settled. But nevertheless, we thought we’d ask MotoGP™ fan and the GOAT of Downhill Mountain Bike racing, Greg Minnaar what his thoughts are and how exactly, much like our very own Valentino Rossi, he’s managed to stay at the very top level of his own sport for 20 years and overcome the challenges that come with every new generation of rider. This is not an episode to be missed! And while you’re at it, get in touch with Fran and Matt using #MotoGPpodcast on Twitter or even in the YouTube comments on the video version of the podcast and let us know who YOU think the GOAT of MotoGP™ is! See you next Monday!
