What a mess. For many years now (and several decades prior, really), the NCAA and its member schools have been losing ground in their seemingly-hopeless battle to preserve the concept of "amateurism," which they view as the basis for college sports. It's a system that has walled college athletes off from the benefits of skyrocketing revenues. Even as the business of college sports has prospered, many believe the value returned to the athletes hasn't kept pace. Under the august leadership of odious dunce Mark Emmert, the NCAA can barely offer a coherent defense of its current model, let alone undertake any serious reform of it. And now the latest battleground is the United States Supreme Court. There are no easy answers to be had, and this discussion offers varying perspectives on the matter as college sports stands trial before the highest court in the land. And after that long shot of seriousness, chase it with analysis of former Penn State point guard Jamari Wheeler's troll game in transferring to Ohio State.
