Good afternoon. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you'll feel May weather showing up two months early. We're sitting at 62 degrees after a mild overnight low of 55. That trace of rain we picked up — about six hundredths of an inch — is already gone. Dense fog blanketed parts of the Piedmont and mountains this morning, dropping visibility to a quarter mile in spots. Made for a tricky commute. That fog should lift by late morning as sunshine punches through. Once it clears? Beautiful afternoon ahead with mostly sunny skies. Highs today reach the mid to upper 70s statewide. Charlotte and Raleigh both top out near 78 degrees — about 31 degrees above normal for early March. Head west toward Asheville and Here comes 74. We're not quite hitting record territory, but this is unseasonably warm. Tonight stays mild with partly cloudy skies. Lows drop to the low to mid 50s across most areas. Western North Carolina cools to 52, while the Piedmont and Triangle hover around 55 to 57. Tuesday brings near-record heat — low 80s with scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm, especially in the morning. Wednesday stays hot with mid 80s before a strong cold front barrels through Wednesday night. That front brings widespread rain, possible thunderstorms. And a dramatic cooldown. Thursday's high only reaches the mid to upper 60s with showers likely. The mountains could even see a brief mix of rain and snow at higher elevations. Friday turns sunny and pleasant with highs in the mid 60s. The weekend looks beautiful — sunny skies, low 70s, perfect early spring weather. Enjoy this warmth while it lasts. See you this evening.
