Show Notes
Good evening. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Step outside and you're feeling real warmth, we're sitting at 70 degrees right now. That's well above normal for mid-March, it feels more like late April out there.
But This is the calm before a very big storm.
Sunday starts deceptively quiet, highs climb to the low 70s across the Piedmont and Triangle. Asheville stays cooler in the low 60s, you'll notice clouds increasing through the afternoon.
As the sun sets. Scattered storms fire up after 3 P.M. The best chance to see rain is between 4 P.M. and 8 P.M. Most of us stay dry tonight, but lows remain mild in the mid 40s to near 50.
Now for Monday. A strong cold front sweeps in early.
Here comes a line of strong to severe storms, the main threat window is from 10 A.M. Through 7 P.M. Damaging wind gusts are the primary concern, an isolated tornado can't be ruled out.
Rainfall totals could reach three quarters of an inch, as the front exits, temperatures crash. Monday night lows drop into the 20s.
Moving on. The mountains see a quick changeover to snow showers. Light accumulation is possible above 3,500 feet.
Temperature-wise. Tuesday brings the reality check, highs only reach the mid 40s. That's a good 20 degrees colder than Monday, expect blustery northwest winds up to 20 miles an hour.
Moving on. Tuesday night is brutal, lows bottom out in the 20s across the Piedmont. The mountains drop to the upper teens.
Here's your heads-up for the week ahead.
Wednesday stays cool but sunny, with highs near 50, we warm back into the low 60s on Thursday. By Friday, we're back to near 70 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
The weekend looks fantastic. Highs Saturday approach the mid 75s.
Looking ahead. Please enjoy the beautiful weather today. But make sure you've a way to receive weather alerts for Monday night. That storm system will pack a punch.
See you tomorrow.
