Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the North Carolina Weather Podcast for Tuesday, February 24th.
Folks — if you stepped outside today and thought it felt more like April than February, you weren't imagining things. We've got a **remarkably mild** setup across the state right now. And honestly? I'm not complaining. But don't get too comfortable, because there's a twist coming.
Here's what's happening. Down in Charlotte, you're sitting at a balmy 68 degrees this afternoon. That's **31 degrees above normal** for late February. Raleigh? You've been flirting with 70 all day. Even up in Asheville, tucked into those Blue Ridge mountains, you're enjoying the low 60s. It's the kind of afternoon where you roll the windows down and wonder why you ever complained about winter.
But A cold front is **barreling toward us** from the west. And it's going to flip the script in a hurry. By tomorrow morning, you're waking up to temperatures in the upper 30s across the Piedmont. That's a **30-degree crash** in less than 24 hours. Wicked, right? The mountains could dip into the mid-20s by Wednesday night. And you'll want to dig those heavier layers back out.
Along the coast, from Wilmington up through the Outer Banks, you'll see the front arrive a little later Wednesday. Expect gusty winds ahead of it — 25 to 30 miles per hour — so if you're anywhere near the water, hold onto your hat. Literally.
Rain chances pick up Wednesday afternoon statewide. Nothing severe, but a steady, soaking rain that could drop half an inch to an inch across the central part of the state. The mountains might even see a few snowflakes mixing in by Thursday morning above 4,000 feet. If you've been eyeing a late-season trip to Beech Mountain, stay tuned.
Here's your heads-up for the week ahead. Thursday and Friday stay cool — highs in the mid-40s for most of us. But the weekend? Models are hinting at another warmup. Classic North Carolina — keeping us on our toes.
If you're heading out early tomorrow. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care. And
