Good morning. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you'll feel something suspicious. Forty three degrees, gentle breeze, not a cloud in sight. Feels like spring handed us a gift. but there's a catch. In the next 24 hours., A backdoor cold front is racing south toward us tonight. and it's bringing a temperature crash that'll make your head spin. First though, enjoy today. Westerly winds are pushing downslope air across the state, pumping us 36 degrees above normal. The Piedmont climbs to 74 degrees. The Triangle hits 73 under brilliant sunshine. Over in the mountains, you're reaching 68 with some gusty breezes. This is March 1st doing its best May impression. Then tonight, everything flips. Winds swing northeast. Clouds pile in. By morning, the Piedmont drops to the low 40s. The Triangle sinks to the upper 30s. Mountains settle around 40. Monday is where it gets ugly. Cold air damming locks in against the mountains. That's cold dense air wedged in and going nowhere. The Triangle only crawls to 44 degrees with rain chances after 7 A.M. The Piedmont struggles to 46 with drizzle possible after 11 A.M. Western North Carolina tops out at 48. We're talking a 36 degrees nosedive from today. The kind of day where your jacket from this morning becomes a cruel joke. Monday night stays raw. Lows in the mid to upper 30s statewide. Light rain lingers. Tuesday starts the comeback. Sixties return as rain tapers off by afternoon. Then the real plot twist kicks in. Wednesday jumps back to the low 70s. Thursday pushes the mid 70s. and Friday into Saturday? We're flirting with 80 degrees and possible thunderstorms. Near record territory. So today is your window. Get outside. Grill something. Take the dog for an extra long walk. Because Monday is going to feel like someone stole spring right out from under you. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
