Good morning. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz.
You know that gray, damp blanket that's been sitting on us all day? It's finally losing its grip. A wedge of cool air got trapped against the mountains. Classic cold air damming. That stalled front to our south kept drizzle and clouds locked in place. but tonight, the whole setup starts falling apart.
In the next 24 hours. Fair warning though. Patchy dense fog rolls in after midnight. Lows settle into the low to mid 40s. If you're driving late, take it slow. That fog can get thick enough to swallow your headlights.
Now the payoff. Saturday morning starts soupy, but once that fog burns off by late morning, temperatures take off. Mid 60s across most of the state. and Sunday? Folks, we're talking low to mid 70s. That's 34 degrees above normal for late February. Windows down, grill fired up, the whole deal.
Don't put those jackets in storage just yet. Monday flips the script hard. Cold air damming slides right back in. Highs crash to the mid to upper 40s with rain likely. Up in the mountains and northern foothills, there's a slim chance of a wintry mix Monday afternoon into the evening. Confidence is low on that, but worth watching. The Triangle and Piedmont? Just rain.
Looking further out. Tuesday stays cloudy and cool, low 50s. Then Wednesday the cold air breaks down again and warmth creeps back. By Thursday and Friday we're flirting with the low 70s, though a few showers could tag along.
So this weekend is the gem. Get outside. Hike Pilot Mountain. Stroll the Riverwalk. Whatever you've been putting off. Saturday and Sunday are handing you the perfect excuse.
I'll be tracking that Monday system overnight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
