🚨 EXTREME HEAT WATCH - Northern California Weather 3/14 - Evening

Good evening. Northern California. I'm Michael Mosby. Step outside and you're feeling serious warmth, we're currently sitting at 78 degrees under clear skies. That's well above normal for mid-March, this is the start of a major warming trend. A ridge of high pressure is building offshore. It's going to amplify and bring us our first heat wave of the year. As the sun sets. Today. The Bay Area sees a high near 74, west winds blow around 10 miles an hour. It's sunny and pleasant, down in the Central Valley, temperatures are even warmer. Here comes a high near 81, north northwest winds around 8 miles an hour keep it breezy. Tonight, skies stay mostly clear, the Bay Area drops to 53 degrees. The Valley cools to 53 as well. Sunday turns up the heat, the Bay Area reaches 78 degrees. The Central Valley hits 85, both regions remain dry. The ridge strengthens rapidly into Monday, this sets the stage for a prolonged heat event. Looking ahead. Let's look at the week ahead, while we're facing a marathon of heat. Monday through Friday, highs run 52 degrees above average, record highs are in jeopardy across the Bay Area and Central Valley. Expect upper 80s to mid 90s inland, the coast warms into the 80s. The warmest days look to be Wednesday through Friday, overnight lows stay mild. They only drop into the upper 50s and low 60s, this offers little relief from the heat. Heat Advisories go into effect Monday and last through Friday, this is dangerous heat for March. If you work outside, you need to take breaks, drink plenty of water.
