Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the New Hampshire Weather Podcast for Saturday, February 21st.
Folks, enjoy tonight's quiet. Because a nor'easter is loading up, and it's pointed right at us.
Today was pleasant enough. About an inch of fresh snow overnight, then sunshine pushed highs near 35 degrees in the White Mountains by 1 P.M. Southern and central New Hampshire topped out around 34 degrees. Not bad for late February.
Here's the deal. Tonight the bottom drops out. Southern New Hampshire falls to 15 degrees by 5 A.M. Head north into the central valleys and you're at 13 degrees. The mountains? A bone chilling 12 degrees. Winds stay light, but that cold air is just the opening act.
Now here's what I'm watching. Winter Storm Watches are up for southern and central New Hampshire, Sunday evening through Monday night. Snow sneaks in around 3 P.M. Sunday down south. By Sunday night, the storm explodes. Heavy snow, northeast winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. Southern New Hampshire picks up 2 to 4 inches by dawn. Central gets 1 to 2 inches. The mountains? Barely a dusting.
Monday is the main event. We're talking 6 to 10 inches in the south. Four to 8 inches in central regions. Even the White Mountains see 2 to 4 inches. Winds howl to 40 miles an hour along the coast. Near whiteout conditions. If you're driving Monday, you'll want to seriously reconsider.
Here's your heads up for the week ahead. Tuesday brings a brief sunny break, highs near 30 degrees. But Tuesday night, lows crash to 7 degrees in the south and 3 degrees in the mountains. That's frostbite cold. Wednesday drops another 1 to 3 inches of snow. Thursday swings wildly to 42 degrees with a rain and snow mix. Friday cools back to 38 degrees with lingering wet weather.
So. If this podcast helps you plan your week, share it with a neighbor. Word of mouth keeps us going.
Bundle up and stay safe out there. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
