Good morning. Nebraska. I'm Michael Nally. Spring just kicked down the door. We're talking 20 to 30 degrees above normal today, folks. That's not a gentle warm-up — that's a full-blown heat surge. Eastern Nebraska wakes up around 40 degrees and rockets to 72 by afternoon. Southeast Nebraska? You're pushing 74 under wall-to-wall sunshine. Out west, you start at 30 but still climb to 71. That's a 40-degree swing before dinner. But here's where it gets serious. Southwest winds gusting to 30 miles an hour are creating dangerous fire conditions. Humidity drops to the teens, our snowpack is gone. And any spark could spread fast. If you're outdoors today, stay alert. Tonight stays mild. Lows hold in the low to mid-40s east, upper 30s west. Those breezy winds keep temperatures from dropping much at all. Monday cranks the heat even higher — mid to upper 70s statewide, possibly flirting with 80 in spots. Western Nebraska faces a Fire Weather Watch with gusts up to 45 miles an hour. This is critical fire danger, folks. Tuesday brings a cold front and a sharp cooldown. Highs crash into the 50s and 60s with rain likely Tuesday night, especially across the Sandhills and northern Nebraska. Some areas could see a rain-snow mix overnight. Wednesday clears out but stays blustery and cooler, highs in the upper 40s. Then Thursday? We're back to the 60s and low 70s with another round of dangerous fire weather. Friday and the weekend settle into the 50s with partly cloudy skies. Spring equinox is just 12 days away. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. See you this afternoon.
