Show Notes

Good morning. Nebraska. I'm Aaron Jolly. If that rain woke you up, you're not imagining things. We picked up seven-tenths of an inch overnight. And this morning's downpour is just getting started. Eastern and southeastern Nebraska are dealing with thunderstorms through mid-morning. Some could pack large hail. Omaha climbs to 68 degrees before the bottom drops out this afternoon. Lincoln hits 69 degrees with the same storm risk. Western Nebraska? You're living in a different season. Snow replaces rain by early afternoon, with 2 to 4 inches expected — possibly more in the Sandhills. North winds gust to 40 miles an hour, whipping up blowing snow and wiping out visibility. You'll peak at 41 degrees before crashing to 20 degrees tonight. Here's where it gets interesting. A cold front barrels east this afternoon, triggering round two of thunderstorms between 2 P.M. and 9 P.M. The strongest storms could produce large hail, damaging winds, or an isolated tornado. Areas from Red Cloud to Fremont to the Iowa border face the highest risk. Keep your weather radio handy. Tonight, the temperature crash hits statewide. Eastern Nebraska drops to 33 degrees. Southeast Nebraska hits 31 degrees. Western Nebraska bottoms out at 20 degrees with lingering snow through early Saturday. Saturday brings relief. Sunshine returns with highs in the low to mid 50s statewide. Looking ahead. Sunday warms beautifully into the upper 60s under sunny skies. Monday stays pleasant at 70 degrees. Tuesday brings another slight chance for rain with highs in the upper 60s. Wednesday clears out with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. Stay weather aware this afternoon. See you tomorrow.
