Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Nebraska Weather Podcast — it's Sunday, February 22nd. Step outside right now and you'll feel 12 degrees of pure February bite. But here's the plot twist: you're about to watch one of the wildest warmups Nebraska's seen all winter.
Right now, wind chills are making it feel like minus 6 in Omaha. Your car's complaining, your face hurts. And you're questioning every life choice that brought you outside. But look west — Scottsbluff's already plotting its escape. By 4 P.M., they'll hit 33 degrees while Lincoln's still stuck at 24. That's a 20-degree split across one state.
Today's all sunshine, but the wind's keeping eastern Nebraska honest. Steady breezes out of the north hold Omaha to 24 degrees by 5 P.M. Out west, lighter winds and full sun push North Platte to 34 by mid-afternoon. Tonight, the cold wins everywhere. Lincoln drops to 2 degrees by 5 A.M. Monday. Scottsbluff holds at 10.
Now here's where it gets wild. Tuesday brings a shocking turnaround — 64 degrees in North Platte, 56 in Lincoln. That's 46 degrees warmer than today in some spots. Wednesday tosses in a slight chance of rain, maybe even snow up north, with highs easing back to the 50s. But Friday? We're flirting with 68 degrees in Southeast Nebraska. Spring-like warmth before a weekend cooldown.
This isn't just warm air — it's a full pattern shift. After weeks of winter's grip, we're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight daily. Air quality's perfect for outdoor plans today.
Alright. If this heads-up helped you plan your week, share it with someone who could use it.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
