Show Notes
Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Nebraska Weather Podcast — it's Tuesday, February 24th.
Step outside right now and that 24 degrees bites at your face. But here's the thing.. Winter's about to take a nap.
Eastern Nebraska wakes up at 19 degrees, but by 3 P.M., you're hitting 48. That's a 29-degree climb in one afternoon. Winds flip from south-southwest to west around 10 A.M.. And that morning chill? Gone. Tonight stays mild at 26 before bouncing back to 28 overnight. Wednesday brings a curveball — rain and snow possible after noon, highs near 47. Then Thursday flips the script again: sunny and 56. Friday? A spring-like 67.
Southeast Nebraska gets even luckier. You'll wake up to 29 degrees around 7 A.M., but by 3 P.M., it's 55 degrees. That's late April weather in late February. Steady south-southwest winds at 8 miles an hour keep things comfortable. Tonight drops to just 26, then rebounds fast. Wednesday hits 54 with a 30 percent chance of afternoon rain. Then the warmth builds: 60 on Thursday. And a downright balmy 69 on Friday.
Western Nebraska steals the show today. You're hitting 58 by 2 P.M. — that's 15 degrees above normal. But here's the catch: a High Wind Warning kicks in Wednesday morning for Banner and Kimball Counties. Gusts up to 60 miles an hour. That's enough to rock your vehicle and snap branches. Wednesday's high of 68 comes with rain showers, but Thursday clears to sunny and 61. Friday peaks at 65 before the weekend cooldown arrives.
Here's your week ahead. Today and tomorrow, we're riding unseasonable warmth — 50s and 60s. Saturday, an Arctic front sweeps in, dropping highs back to the 30s and 40s. Sunday and Monday bring a slight chance of snow, especially east, but nothing major.
Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. Winter's not done with us yet.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
