Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Nebraska Weather Podcast — it's Wednesday, February 25th.
That gray blanket overhead is holding us at 34 degrees. But here's the wild part.. Western Nebraska is about to run nearly 20 degrees warmer than the east today.
Eastern Nebraska starts mostly cloudy. Slight chance of snow showers between 7 A.M. and 11 A.M., then rain builds in. You'll hit 45 degrees around 5 P.M. Rain moves in from 5 P.M. to 9 P.M., peaking around 7 P.M. Winds shift from northeast to east around 11 A.M. Tonight drops to 27 degrees. It'll feel like 28 around midnight.
Southeast Nebraska catches more sun. Partly sunny with a high of 53 degrees around 4 P.M. Rain chances arrive 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Winds shift from east to southeast around noon. Lows drop to 26 tonight. It'll feel like 33 around 9 P.M.
Out west? Completely different day. High of 64 degrees around 3 P.M. — almost springlike. Rain chances 2 P.M. to 5 P.M., peaking around 3 P.M. Winds shift from south southwest to west southwest around 11 A.M., gusting to 15 miles an hour around 1 P.M. But heads up.. A High Wind Warning is in effect for Banner and Kimball Counties from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Gusts could hit 60 miles an hour. A Red Flag Warning also covers parts of southwest Nebraska — critical fire danger today. Tonight plummets to 24 degrees. It'll feel like 19 by 5 A.M.
Here's your week ahead. Thursday and Friday bring sunshine and a real warm-up. Highs climb into the upper 50s and 60s statewide. Friday could touch 70 in the southeast. Enjoy it.. Because a cold front arrives Saturday. Highs drop back to the 40s. Sunday brings a chance of snow, with highs only in the 30s.
