Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Nebraska Weather Podcast — it's Monday, February 23rd.
Right now, the entire state is sitting at 6 degrees. But here's where it gets wild. By this afternoon, Scottsbluff will be lounging at 45 degrees while Omaha barely scrapes 26. That's an 18-degree split across one state at the exact same time.
Eastern Nebraska, you're stuck in winter's grip this morning. Wind chills near zero around 7 A.M., with your low bottoming out right at zero. The cold air is clinging to that lingering snowpack like it's got nowhere else to go. But you'll climb to 25 degrees by 5 P.M. Winds shift from north to east around 9 A.M. At 1 P.M., you'll feel 9 degrees even though the thermometer reads 17.
Southeast Nebraska, you're just slightly warmer. Low of 2 degrees around 7 A.M., then up to 34 by 5 P.M. Steady north winds at 6 miles an hour. At noon, it'll feel like 12 when it's actually 20.
Western Nebraska, you're the winner today. Low of 9 around 5 A.M., then you rocket to 45 by 5 P.M. Winds flip from south-southwest to west-southwest by 11 P.M., gusting to 15 miles an hour. At 8 A.M., it'll feel like minus 4 when it's actually 10 degrees.
But here's the real story. Tuesday, everyone jumps 20 degrees. Omaha and Lincoln both hit 57. Scottsbluff reaches 58. Wednesday brings a light rain-snow mix north of I-80, then we absolutely soar to near 70 degrees Friday in the southwest. Saturday cools back to the 40s, with a slight chance of snow Sunday.
This morning. Tomorrow's warmth is worth the wait.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
