In today’s news: CHCCS moves ahead on a new Carrboro Elementary School building, and UNC women’s basketball gets an overtime win over Virginia Tech. Also: Chapel Hill police warn about a rash of stolen checks; early voting continues in North Carolina; and more local stores are finally reopening after July’s Tropical Storm Chantal, including Snooze in Eastgate Crossing and Wake Radiology’s Chapel Hill location (now in a new spot). The Extraordinary Thrift Store (formerly CommunityWorx) is also opening today in Carrboro. And in sports: Carolina men’s basketball (still shorthanded) gears up for Syracuse, part of a busy weekend that also includes big games for lacrosse, tennis, wrestling, gymnastics, baseball – and softball, which already had a big day Thursday with a doubleheader sweep and a no-hitter for pitcher Lilly Parrish.
