S1 Ep 12The Ultimate Benchwarmer, Peter Dill of Seton Hall
"There is so much more that we have in ourselves" Peter Dill has been dubbed "The Ultimate Benchwarmer" for his time on the Seton Hall basketball team where his bench antics were lauded by ESPN, Huffington Post, and the Wall Street Journal. Pete is a unique student athlete and truly an inspiring story. For starters, he played very little organized basketball before walking onto the Division 1 program as a college junior. In this conversation, Andy and Tim Flattery chat with Pete about the academic life of a college athlete, the joys of practice, and the truly Catholic identity of a Big East basketball player.
S1 Ep 11Hardcore baseball talk with the "most famous man from Rochester," Dan Lyons.
Dan Lyons is a slick fielding veteran shortstop for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. S1 Ep 8Iowa Speedway President on "the best guys weekend of your life"
In this special episode, The Moonlight Graham Show takes a slightly different direction than our typical conversation with a former or current player. If you are interested in NASCAR and the inner workings of big time sports marketing, then you will enjoy this conversation with Jimmy Small, the President of the Iowa Speedway. Highlights include Jimmy describing a classic story of bootstrapping his way into an interview with NASCAR. For those of us that are unfamiliar with the NASCAR scene, he also makes the case for why it is like no other sports weekend experience. Lastly, we find out what Adam Sandler, Randy Moss, and Kenny Powers all have in common. As a fun aside, Jimmy also recalls the story of his grandfather Jim Small who coincidentally was a real-life "Moonlight Graham." Small was a "Bonus Baby" outfielder for the Detroit Tigers in the 1950s and a career .270 hitter.
S1 Ep 7Chuck Hartlieb - How this backup became an Iowa Hawkeye "Mount Rushmore QB"
EThis is a landmark episode for the Moonlight Graham Show as we were privileged to have a conversation with Iowa Hawkeye football legend and true Moonlighter Chuck Hartlieb. In this conversation, Chuck tells the legendary underdog story of beating out Mark McGwire's brother to win the starting QB gig. He describes the all-time classic win against Ohio State in '87 that gave Iowa their first win in Columbus in almost 3 decades. He's also got some great stuff on the iconic Hayden Fry, and much more. An All American, Chuck led the '87 Hawkeyes to a then-school record-tying 10 wins. In '88, Hartlieb had another incredible year when he broke the other noteworthy Chuck's school records for both completions (288) and yards (3,738) in a season (that being Hall of Famer and former NFL QB Chuck Long). Hartlieb finished his Hawk career as only the 2nd player in history to throw for more than 3,000 yards in two consecutive seasons.

S1 Ep 5Brownlee Part Deux - "Playing basketball is different with your best friends"
EOur conversation with Jack Brownlee was so enjoyable that we cut it into 2 parts. No joke- Part 2 is even better than the first. In this episode, Jack unloads some gems. Highlights include the time he went head-to-head with Dwyane Wade, his personal experience that demonstrates why Billy Donovan can recruit his ass off, and the time he got picked over Kyle Korver to play on a star-studded AAU team. Also, Jack's revelation about the Tim Floyd and Larry Eustachy eras of Iowa State Cyclones Basketball is shocking.
S1 Ep 5Iowa Hawkeye Jack Brownlee gives his definitive, tell-all interview
EThis conversation with Jack Brownlee is the epitome of why we created this show. Our friend Jack is the Iowa High School all-time assists leader out of our very own Saint Edmond High School in Fort Dodge, IA. At 6'0'' 160lbs, Jack grinded and persevered when he turned down scholarships out of high school to play JUCO basketball, to become a walk-on in the Big 10 conference, to finally become a scholarship athlete and meaningful role player under Coach Steve Alford. In this tell-all conversation Jack brings us his unfiltered college basketball stories that are pure gold. These include the time Coach Alford schooled his players in a pickup game, how scout team practice is actually "method acting," why the handshake line is dumb, and how a white guy can survive in a black guy's sport (including the secret that Doug McDermott and Kyle Korver figured out).
S1 Ep 4A Candid Conversation with Retired All-American pitcher (aka stories with Dad)
In this special conversation, Tim and Neil discuss old guy baseball stories, getting drafted 4 times to the MLB, and records that will never be broken (literally) with our Dad, Dave Flattery. Dad is a former High School All-American pitcher, an Iowa State Cyclone, and holds the unique distinction of being one of the only players ever drafted 4 times by MLB teams and never signing.
