Ep 127: “The Wanderer Found Me”: Bipedal Therianthrope. Upper Peninsula, Michigan
A small being walked across Rebekah’s home after a sense of presence had been felt for some time. She never imagined it was possible to have an experience like this…until it happened. The therianthrope being appeared weary from travelling, with staff in hand - ‘his’ face reminiscent of an indigenous person. He passed across a doorway in Rebekah's home, seemingly across the building, incongruent to the layout of the house. "The creature was maybe about knee high. It was bipedal and walked with a human gait, but it was a little hunched. I think he might have been wearing brown breeches or something, but nothing else, because his top half was hairy or fur covered, like an animal...my impression was a mixture of animal and human in feature." We discuss the possibility that her home, which is situated next to a mine (a potentially significant factor), lies on a fairy path (a line between two sacred points in the landscape which fairy beings travel along). We also hear how a previous occupant may have been present in the house and possibly took the form of an ‘angel’ who used to visit Rebekah’s daughter as a child. I was fascinated to hear about the ancient ‘Stonehenge-like’ monument beneath the surface of Lake Michigan - one of the sacred sites mentioned. Ep 126: Cottingley Fairies Unveiled: Frances' Side of the Story with Dr Simon Young
The case of The Cottingley Fairies has captured people's imaginations for over a century. But the photos that Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths created of the "Beck Fairies" near their home on the outskirts of Bradford in 1917 are now more famous for being the subject of a hoax. However, there is much more to the story and it is really one of tragedy rather than trickery. I chat to Dr Simon Young about the lesser known aspects of the case, predominantly from the perspective of the younger child, Frances who was the only one who had claimed to see the fairies. We discuss how her personal experience became twisted into a painful untruth which burdened Frances for her entire life. The work of Dr Simon Young is highly respected in the fairy community and much loved for his resurrection of The Fairy Investigation Society and subsequent Fairy Census, which is ongoing. Ep 125: Sacred Life and Sacred Death
For some time now, I had been meaning to share the profound experiences that took place in relation to my father’s death. It feels tender and vulnerable to offer these stories but I own the decision to do that. I hope that hearing about these experiences might help someone else who is moving through a death or grief process…or they might simply provide another way to view these moments which inevitably take place at some time or another in all our lives. It’s been quiet on the Pod lately as I’m in the last few weeks of writing my book, ‘Modern Fairy Sightings: Personal Encounters in Extraordinary Times.’ I'll be back to my normal fortnightly release from April onwards. We will return to fairy experiences then. These topics around life and death feel relevant - particularly in these times. To me, they suggest that the separation between our realm and Other realms may not be as fixed as we hold it to be. Ep 114: Elf Encounter & Psychopomp Crow (Cape Cod, Massachusetts)
It was an honour to speak with Amanda about her family's experiences. We hear the extraordinary sighting of what her (non-believer) husband described as an 'elf' in and around their home in Cape Cod.Amanda shares a very moving account of a crow which appeared in the family's lives and brought solace, around a tragic event. Ep: 113 The FA! and Other Bedside Visitors
I speak with Rick, whose father was an intelligence agent in the CIA from the 1950s onwards. One night in 1954 in Austria, when Rick was a young child left alone briefly in his parents' bed, something unseen began pulling at his body from the bottom of the bed. Eventually, a red being popped up at the side of his bed and shouted ‘FA!’ in his face. It was the culmination of many other unsettling experiences. The family later returned to North America, living in various locations.Later, as a young man while training in Buddhist meditation techniques his encounters with Otherworldly beings began to reignite. The pattern seems to suggest that these beings have been reaching out to him for his entire life. He is now ready to engage with them, if only they would return.This was a fascinating conversation. Ep 112: 'Rabbit Trap' Dir. Bryn Chainey
I spoke to Bryn Chainey, Director of 'Rabbit Trap', Bryn's first feature film. The story centres around a couple in (no later than) 1976 who have moved into the Welsh countryside on a creative retreat. Daphne (Rosy McEwen) an avant garde vocalist and her husband Darcy (Dev Patel) an experimental sound recordist, use the new found space to explore their art and their relationship. In doing so, they stumble across unusual sounds, enter the depths of nature and experience something Otherworldly...at which point a stranger enters their lives.It was great to chat with Bryn and learn what had inspired him. Turns out that, like many of us, he's been familiar with these worlds since childhood. And, (as these magical kinds of projects tend to do) against all odds, the film found it's way into the insightful hands of SpectreVision - yet another nudge that there's definitely something driving this opening of hearts and minds towards the Otherworld, into the mainstream. It's a brilliant film, sensitive to these themes, incredible cinematography due to the fact that it's all shot on 35mm, giving a soothing sense of spaciousness to the natural world backdrop that runs throughout the story. The soundscape is masterful and an experience all by itself. I loved it!! Go and see it if you can. The film releases Friday 12th September in cinemas all across the US. We are hoping it will come to Europe too. In the meantime, check out Bryn's previous short film Moritz and the Woodwose (2013) - I think the portrayal of the being is really inspired. Greg, an academic and lifelong experiencer contacted me with what he felt was a gnome encounter.We discuss early memories including his crib levitating and spindly black creatures who would appear at the side of his childhood bed.
