UFC 311: Chicken Shit into Chicken Salad
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 311 looked phenomenal on paper, and despite having to get to the sixth fight before a finish was recorded, it did indeed deliver some really exciting moments. We saw some hype trains derailed, fantastic finishes and loud mouths closed—at least for now. We got to see new wrinkles from Jiri Prochazka, a sense that Reinier De Ridder certainly belongs i…

UFC 311 Main Card Vivi: Big Day for AKA
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comA UFC PPV is pretty much always welcome (almost!), but when you’ve got a truly loaded card, that’s just the cherry on top of the cake. UFC 311 is a really good card. Two title fights and what looks like a title eliminator between Prochazka and Hill says that the main card looks like a winner. Will the challengers take the belts or will the champs still …

UFC Vegas 101: Better than it should've been
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Vegas 101 was absolutely awful on paper but delivered some great action in practice. Not that cards like this are luring in new viewers but for the sake of just watching some fights, they delivered reasonably well. Mackenzie Dern avenged her loss to Amanda Ribas with a third-round submission and The Ponz showed he’s still got some gas left in the ta…

UFC Vegas 101 Main Card Vivi: Bashi Basho
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC is back after a month of down time and we kind of wish they’d go back to the down time considering the poor offering they’ve given to us in the form of another miserable Apex card. And sitting atop this heap is a rematch that absolutely nobody asked for. Why? Because UFC is filling a quota. A whole month away and we get a 14-fight event that has ju…

The MMA Depressed-us: The Worst of 2024 (pt. 2)
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comIt’s 2025 now, officially time to leave 2024 in the rearview mirror. Or is it? Our crack team of analysts have decided to give the gift of fights, and they’re giving some of the worst fights of the year. Why? UFC Tampa: Cut That
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Tampa saw a night of action with several knockouts dotting the card, but the satisfaction of watching Colby Covington get worked over like Christmas dinner was undeniable. Having the last four fights all end by knockout was pretty gnarly too. And Cub Swanson, you’re never gonna go out on a higher note than that. Considering how bad the alternative f…

UFC Tampa: Whose Mansa Is This?
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.com*Note: There were some technical difficulties with this episode, specifically with mic feedback. We addressed it as best we could. At around the 23 minute mark we managed to correct it to a much more significant degree. UFC 310: Too little, too late
UFC 310 has played out in reality and just as we thought, Kai Asakura couldn’t stand up to the Cannibal test, opting instead to take a nap on the job. Shavkat Rakhmonov got a lot more resistance from Ian Machado Garry than he bargained for, and we got to see some of the most egregious judging in recent memory with Volkov-Gane. The undercard also bore witness to more questionable judging in the Sterling-Evloev fight, but alas, what can we do? UFC 310: The Outsider
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 310 is a great card from top to bottom with only a couple fights that may end up not delivering the action we once got from them—looking at you Chris Weidman vs. Eryk Anders. But that’s a little further down the card. We’re focusing on the main card action and there’s plenty of it.At the top of the bout sheet is the title fight between reigning cham…

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comTony Ferguson’s career plummet has concerned fans for years, but perhaps it’s his “champ shit” mindset that confounds everyone the most. There is a wide variety of upside points to be appreciative of. UFC 309: I was ready for worse
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 309 is officially history, and likely Mickey Gall is too. Jon Jones still reigns supreme and Michael Chandler got the absolute brakes beat off him for 22 minutes, then did what he always does: rally as hard as he can for naught. Karine Silva F’d around and found out and Bo Nickal bored us all to tears.Did I mention Donald Trump and several of his ca…

UFC 309 Main Card: A Cynical Card
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comMadison Square Garden is the location of what could be Jon Jones’ last stint at heavyweight. To hear him tell it, the fans really want him to fight the likes of Derrick Lewis or Jamahal Hill rather than the heavyweight interim belt holder. It’s not like that belt wasn’t basically set up to mark the next person to challenge for the undisputed belt or any…

UFC Vegas 100: Fun Enough
*Note: Eddie is out again this week with his high seas adventures. The card that should’ve been left an unfulfilled dream on Sean Shelby’s pillow is over and with it, Neil Magny’s hopes of hanging on to that Number 15 ranking. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion, but watching it in practice was kind of sad. Reinier de Ridder showed out in his debut, defeating Gerald Meerschaert in a wild brawl that saw the UFC vet arm-triangled in the third round.Did the card have its moments? It sure did, and plenty of them. Were the majority of fights on this card consequential to rankings movement? No, they weren’t. What’s the point of being the biggest promotion in the world if your events are on par with regional level shows? But I digress.Let’s look at the results and bonuses:MMA Vivisection & 6th Round is a reader-supported publication. UFC Vegas 100 Prelims: New Apex of Suck
Hard to believe there have been 99 events held at the Apex because we can’t remember most of them. This particular card is especially bad considering the momentous occasion of hosting 100 shows under its roof. 14 fighters coming off losses for a 12-fight card is shameful. As the title suggests, it truly is a new apex of suck. Let’s take a look at the event’s main portion and the alternative stats. Of note: The bout order was changed from yesterday, with Kowalkiewicz vs. Gomes moving to the featured prelim spot.MMA Vivisection & 6th Round is a reader-supported publication. UFC Vegas 100 Main Card: 2 Cool 4 School
The Apex will celebrate its 100th UFC event this Saturday night and they did absolutely nothing to celebrate the milestone. Instead, the promotion decided they would present the worst Apex card of the year, perhaps the worst one ever—a feat hard to achieve with 99 bare-minimum cards under their belt already in the venue. We do slightly lament the loss of Garbrandt-Johns, but it wasn’t setting the world on fire, and aside from the main event, there’s a plethora of going-nowhere fights. Lateral movement is everywhere you look. But the main event is a juicy one and Zane’s favor is shining upon Carlos Prates despite his Fighting Nerds home. UFC Edmonton Main Card: Assassin Baby
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comCanada is getting the rough treatment from UFC this weekend. A 14-fight event where 13 of the featured athletes are coming off losses seems like a hard sell, even with four ranked bouts. Sitting atop the heap is a great flyweight matchup between Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi. Is it the kind of fight you put atop an on0the0road card? Probably not, but b…

UFC 308: Awesome Sadness
*Note: Eddie out this week, so Zane winged it soloUFC 308 is in the books and with it, the hopes and dreams of many. What hopes and dreams, you ask? The ones that would’ve seen Max Holloway and Robert Whittaker leave the octagon victorious. Instead, they were finished, and they were violent finishes, to boot. Topuria never opened his mouth the entire fight. Cardio through the roof and I’d imagine his pulse rate hovered in the triathlete range. Holloway’s lauded cardio never failed him, but he was definitely breathing out of his mouth by round 2. Many foretold Topuria’s win, but to actually watch Max get finished was still sad to behold.Whittaker endured an onslaught of heavy pressure from Chimaev right from Jump Street and even made some narrow escapes but Khamzat was not to be denied. He took Rob’s back and locked in a face-crank, forcing an immediate tap. Why so fast, Rob? That answer came soon after when Rob pointed to his jaw. Later photos would reveal the crushing devastation Chimaev wreaked upon Whittaker’s jaw. Broken in at least two places. It’s a gruesome photo, be warned.Let’s look at the results and bonuses:MMA Vivisection & 6th Round is a reader-supported publication. UFC 308 Main Card: Matador Max?
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 308 is finally here and with it, one of the better PPV main cards of the year. At the top of the event is the featherweight title bout between reigning king Ilia Topuria and the challenger, one Jerome Max Holloway. Straight up banger, full stop. UFC Vegas 99: Professional Failure League
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Vegas 99 is thankfully in the history books and not a moment too soon because that was an insanely long card. Just two finishes in eleven fights, and the fights that went the distance were mostly nothing to write home about. Michel Pereira got absolutely dominated by Fluffy Hernandez, then finished in the fifth round. It was an embarrassing performa…

UFC Vegas 99 Main Card: Durr-Devil
You guys and gals aren’t going to believe this, but a mythical entity is afoot. The ultra-rare decent Apex card. That’s right kids, we’re getting a pretty solid event with UFC Vegas 99. Not only do we get three ranked fights, we have some really good matchmaking at play, as well. Charles Johnson vs. Sumudaerji is certified fresh. The main event is good, too. Middleweight doesn’t look completely barren these days. It’s not robust, by any means, but it’s got potential, and it’s been awhile since we’ve been able to say that. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC is back in business this weekend with their 98th Vegas themed Apex card, and much as one would expect, it’s kind of miserable. Okay, it’s a lot of miserable. If you don’t believe it, just scroll down to the alternative stats and feast your eyes on those. Outside the main event, there isn’t another truly intriguing fight. There are plenty of interest…

UFC 307: A one fight card
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 307 is finally in the books and good riddance. The judging stunk the place up. There were several decisions that made us give the side-eye and there were also several fights that made us want to stab our own eyeballs with a dull knife. But Kayla won, and we’re very interested in seeing her compete for the belt (you know she’s next). Poatan won his f…

UFC 307: It's a-me, Mario!
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comRED ALERT! UFC is giving us a card with SEVEN ranked fights! Of course it’s a PPV, but we can admit when the promotion is churning out solid content, and for the last few weeks, we’ve gotten some good matchmaking. This week features much of the same—although we’re not overly thrilled with the two dinosaur matches on the undercard. Means vs. McGee and OS…

UFC Paris: French Revolution for Jesus
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Paris is now history, but within the timeframe that it was an active event, it brought some show-stopping moments and another KO of the year candidate. UFC 306: A Noche to Forget
A pretty underwhelming Noche UFC card didn’t deliver the action where the two title fights were concerned, but up to that point, we had a great run of fights, even if there was a dearth of finishes. There were only two finishes on the entire card. We did get a contender for round of the year (the decade even) with the third stanza of Zellhuber vs. Ribovics, which was an outstanding contest. The production pizzazz didn’t really kick in much until the main card, aside from some color changing displays and the unique ring girl costumes, but once the main card got underway, we were treated to the dazzling AI displays in full 16K that didn’t quite translate on our subpar monitors and TV screens. But Norma Dumont won, and for that, Stephie and Zane can rejoice.Let’s take a look at the results and bonuses. UFC 306 Main Card: Sphere of Influence
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 306 week is finally here and with it, a solid card. Is it worth all the hype and huge production budget the promotion has invested in it? Absolutely not. Will it be a fun watch considering the match-ups? Yes it will. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 96 isn’t just a raggedy Apex card. This time around, it also bears the distinction of being a TUF finale event, as well. And before you ask, yes, TUF is still a thing. The show is headlined by a middleweight contender matchup between Jared Cannonier and Zane’s favorite fighter, Caio Borralho. Will the leader of the Fighting Nerds be able get the W? …

UFC 305 Prelims: Cleanest Monster
We’re just a day away from a pretty solid PPV with UFC 305, and even the undercard has a little razzle dazzle. Once again, I can’t help but laugh to myself when I stop to think what you all are guessing the title means. It would be pretty great to see some of you came up with before you listened to the show. The comments are right there, just in case you want to share. MMA Vivisection & 6th Round is a reader-supported publication. We’re getting a heavyweight bout as the featured prelim, and for that, I will offer up a rare bit of gratitude in keeping unranked heavies on the undercard. Junior Tafa is a crowd favorite and willing to get right in the pocket, so Valter Walker should prepare for that. It’s decent placement for this event. Let’s take a look at the rest of the bouts and some alternative stats:UFC 305 Undercard* Junior Tafa vs. Valter Walker 265 lbs* Josh Culibao vs. Ricardo Ramos 145 lbs* Casey O'Neill vs. Luana Santos 125 lbs* Jack Jenkins vs. Herbert Burns 145 lbs* Tom Nolan vs. Alex Reyes 155 lbs* Kenan Song vs. Ricky Glenn 170 lbs* Stewart Nicoll vs. Jesus Aguilar 125 lbsUFC 305 Alternative Stats* Ranked fights: 4* Ranked fighters: 9* Fighters coming off losses: 15* Contender Series alumni: 5* TUF alumni: 1* Debuting fighters: 1 (Nicoll)Don’t forget to check out the companion episode for our predictions and analysis of the main card. UFC Vegas 95: At Least It Was Quick
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comThank the heavens that card is over! There were only 3 finishes and one would be hard pressed to locate a contest worthy of FOTN. Unfortunately, that was reflected in the bonuses. The event seemed like an afterthought—just thrown together while the matchmaking brass were on the golf course, or while they were engaged in some other trivial activity. It’s…

UFC Vegas 95 Main Card: Worst Fight Night Ever
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Vegas 95 is terrible. Full stop. We don’t think we’ve seen a worse card in the history of the sport, and if there was, it’s escaped our memory. It’s like the UFC threw darts at their roster and wherever the dart landed is how the matches were made. Just an absolute mess. Don’t let the alternative stats fool you. When you peel back the layers of the …

UFC Abu Dhabi: Bite the Bullet
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Abu Dhabi is here and surprise, surprise, it’s a good card. Generally, the on-the-road fight night events usually are pretty good. UFC wants to make sure they maximize their gates by saving the better fights for these shows and it appears to be working. That and jacking up the rates of the tickets, but don’t let me get caught up in that. Let’s inste…

UFC 304: Coasting to the End
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 304 is in the books, and if you had a parlay, you’re probably wondering what the hell happened. Last night was filled with upsets and surprise endings—not that it’s a bad thing. Belal Muhammad is the new champ, but will everyone remember his name? That remains to be seen. Tom Aspinall, however, is still the interim HW champ, though. There’s a reason…

UFC 304 Main Card: Taking the Piss
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comHold onto your hats! The UFC has given us a very solid card with this coming Saturday’s offering. UFC 304 bears all the hallmarks of a great event. Not one, but two title fights, name value, ranked talent…it has it all. Thank you matchmaking brass for finally getting on the ball. We are most definitely worthy, considering how much we sink into the ever-…

UFC Vegas 94 Main Card: Turtle Power
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Vegas 94 is almost here and boy is it a really meager card. We’re sure the old platitudes of “these crappy-on-paper cards always deliver” will be there, but it’s about getting the butt in the seat first. How are we to do that if only the hardcores are the ones willing to watch, and they aren’t always paying subscribers? It certainly isn’t going to b…

UFC Denver: Revenge of the Nerds
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Denver is officially in the books and the Fighting Nerds have logged another TKO victory. Jean Silva cut Dober open over his right eye and then targeted it relentlessly until Herb Dean was forced to call in the ringside physician. It was a FOTY contender, easily. At some point, Zane will reluctantly embrace this team. Rose Namajunas showed that ther…

UFC Denver Main Card: Thuggin' Love
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comThe UFC is back to business after a brief, one-week respite. We return with a card on the road, to the mile-high city where Tracy Cortez will be able to let us all know if two days really is enough time to acclimate to that altitude. And Thug Rose will be able to answer the question of where her flyweight ceiling is. MMA Vivisection & 6th Round is a rea…

Jackson-Wink Double Feature
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comSince this is an off-week for the UFC, you already know what that means—another hilarious episode of The MMA Depressed-us. With the retirements of both Andrei Arlovski and Michelle Waterson-Gomez, the boys figured this would be the perfect subject matter for today’s show. There’s no better way to kick off your 4th of July festivities than with a triple …

UFC 303: All the Changes
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 303 came and went like a fart on the wind. After the card was ravaged by injuries, most notoriously by Conor McGregor’s bum pinky toe, it would continue to transform into the unrecognizable mess it became. Midway through the card, Brian Ortega withdrew from his co-main event bout with Diego Lopes. Apparently, his weight cut went a lot worse than any…

UFC 303 Main Card: Magic Man
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC 303 is here, sans Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler headling. In their place, we get a rematch between the two dynamos known as Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka—not a bad replacement at all. As a matter of fact, there’s quite a few matches we like on this card. All in all, it’s a very solid card, and it will be just fine without McGregor. The UFC, …

UFC Riyadh: Saudi 5000
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Saudi Arabia is in the books and it provided some very high points among some very mid fights, but Bobby Knuckles is victorious and that is all that matters today. His first-round destruction of Ikram Aliskerov summoned up memories of what got him the belt once upon a time, and it keeps his name forever in the title mix. We are not mad about that!MM…

UFC Riyadh Main Card: Sports-washing Edition
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit themmadrawpodcast.substack.comUFC Riyadh is here and while it’s not terrible, it’s nothing to write home about either. But it is infinitely better than the originally planned March card that was ultimately postponed to this weekend. That card was so bad the Saudis sent it back. This current iteration was so much better before it was ravaged by cancellations, some coming within the l…
