Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Mississippi Weather Podcast — it's Monday, February 23rd. Today's forecast comes with a split personality and a serious warning. We're talking fire danger this afternoon and a freeze tonight, followed by a wild warmup that'll have you questioning your calendar. Step outside right now and you're at 35 degrees. Feels calm, feels manageable. But here's the thing.. A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 6 P.M. Across most of southern and central Mississippi. Northwest winds gusting to 25 miles an hour, humidity dropping to 20 percent. Translation? Any spark becomes a wildfire. Don't burn anything outdoors today. The National Weather Service isn't mincing words on this one. Let's talk temps. Up in northern Mississippi, you're looking at a high of 40 degrees around 3 P.M. Winds gust to 15 miles an hour by 9 A.M., making it feel like 21 degrees at 7 A.M. Tonight? Clear and freezing. Lows drop to 21 by 5 A.M. Central Mississippi warms up a bit more. You'll hit 47 degrees around 4 P.M. Those north winds keep it sharp, though. Tonight, lows tumble to 26 by 4 A.M. Down on the Gulf Coast, you're the warm spot today. Highs reach 54 around 3 P.M. Winds shift northwest around 2 P.M.. And at 7 A.M., it'll feel like 27 degrees. Tonight, lows dip to 33 by 5 A.M. Here's where it gets interesting. Tuesday brings a rebound.. 55 north, 60 central, 57 coast. By Wednesday, we're in the 60s and 70s statewide. Then Thursday flips the script again. Storms roll in, especially along the coast where rain chances hit 70 percent. Nearly an inch possible up north. Friday the storms clear. And the weekend? Sunshine and 70s. Stay off the burn pile today. The warmth is coming, but let's get through Monday first. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
