Show Notes

A former Cabinet Minister is unconvinced parliamentary security staff should have the power to arrest.

Speaker Gerry Brownlee suggests a security boost is needed for Members of Parliament and is expecting advice on the relationship between Parliament's own security and Police.

Threats to MPs have increased in recent years.

Political commentator Peter Dunne told Mike Hosking that you have to draw a line between protecting privacy and the public's right to have access.

He doesn't like the idea of security staff being able to detain as arrest powers are traditionally for Police, but there could be some upgrading.
