A ruling against Uber could hold ramifications for many other Kiwi businesses.

The Court of Appeal has ruled four Uber drivers are employees, not contractors.

Uber says it will appeal, and claims the move will increase uncertainty for workers who enjoy the flexibility of contract work.

Employment expert Max Whitehead told Mike Hosking that 97% of Kiwi enterprises are small businesses and operate similar to Uber.

He says there would be huge impacts on the country's economy, people, and work if the decision is carried in other appeals.
