Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Michigan Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th.
That third of an inch of snow overnight? Barely worth the shovel. But folks, step outside right now and that west wind will bite you through your coat. Winter's still got some fight left.
Southeast Michigan tops out at 36 degrees today. Scattered snow showers taper off before 1 P.M., then just clouds. Slide west and Grand Rapids sits at 31 degrees. Feels colder with that wind cutting across the lake. Now push north.. Whole different story. Northern Michigan barely cracks 21 degrees. Wind chills in the single digits. The kind of cold that makes your eyes water before you reach the mailbox.
Tonight the bottom drops out. Southeast falls to 19 degrees. West Michigan dips to 16. Up north? Ten degrees. Keep those faucets dripping.
Thursday brings sunshine statewide. Highs climb back to the mid 30s. Nice enough. But Friday.. Friday is the headline. Southeast Michigan surges to 50 degrees. West Michigan hits 49. Even up north touches 44. Southwest winds pull in air that actually feels like March. You might catch yourself rolling a window down.
Don't get too attached. A cold front barrels through Saturday. Temps crash back to the 30s and 40s with snow possible by afternoon. Sunday and Monday? We're talking 20s and 30s again. Classic February sucker punch.
One bright spot that nobody can take away. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight today. Sunrise at 7:22 A.M. Sunset at 6:23 P.M. Spring equinox is just three weeks out.
I'll be tracking that Friday warmup and Saturday's cold front all week. Charge your phones and top off the windshield fluid tonight.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
