Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Michigan Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd.
Folks, enjoy the quiet tonight.. Because tomorrow gets wild. A winter storm warning kicks in at 10 A.M. Tuesday for the eastern Upper Peninsula. Chippewa and Mackinac Counties are staring down 6 to 9 inches. Blowing snow along US 9 degrees west of the Mackinac Bridge could create near whiteout conditions. That's no joke.
But tonight? Tonight's the deep breath before the punch. Lows drop to 16 degrees in the southeast. West Michigan falls to 14. Up north? A frigid 9 degrees. Wind chills tomorrow morning hit 8 degrees in Grand Rapids around 7 A.M. Traverse City? A brutal single degree above zero around 8 A.M. Your car is going to protest.
Now let's talk Tuesday's snow timeline. It starts rolling into Northern Michigan by 7 A.M. Heavy stuff peaks around 4 P.M. With 3 to 5 inches near Marquette and Munising. Gusts hit 25 miles an hour up there. Visibility goes downhill fast.
Slide south to West Michigan. Snow arrives by 1 P.M. And runs through 5 P.M. Highs touch 34 degrees around 3 P.M. Before temperatures retreat. Over in the southeast, you're seeing a lighter round that same afternoon. Highs near 33 degrees. Then a sneaky second wave drops under an inch before 1 A.M. Wednesday.
Wednesday the snow tapers. Clouds hang around but highs rebound to the mid 30s. Here's where it gets interesting. Thursday stays cool with a chance of light snow. Then Friday.. Highs rocket to 44 degrees in Detroit and 47 in Grand Rapids. That's a 20 degree jump. Almost spring. Saturday holds the mid 40s before cold crashes the party Sunday.
I'll be tracking this storm all night. Charge your phone and top off that gas tank before morning.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
